• Manager of Multiphase Flow Assurance Laboratory
Development of a large annular pipe flow facility: Working with multiple vendors and contractors (both local and international) to install, commission and operate a large flow loop. It is one of the largest research facilities in Qatar. The budget of the project is more than $1000000. This annular flow facility will be used to experimentally simulate various field-scale drilling conditions.
Conducting CFD simulations (non-Newtonian fluid, multiphase flow, drilling conditions)
Supervising researchers and graduate/under-graduate students
Member of departmental Health and Safety Committee
Working as the assistant instructor of a Petroleum Engineering course (Transport processes in petroleum production)
Planned lab-scale experiments to ensure the implementation of an industrial scale engineering project.
Worked under strict confidentiality agreement.
• Scoping research project (2009 - 2010)
Performed literature review, feasibility study, scoping, conceptual design, preliminary process flow diagram, piping and instrumentation diagram and identification of process equipment for research
• Designing experimental facilities (2010 - 2011)
Performed equipment sizing and specifications, initial testing, pre-purchase testing of equipment, purchase, detailed design of the apparatus, material specification, fabrication, pump sizing, and design modification of existing pipeloop
• Commissioning experimental facilities (2011 - 2012)
Undertook HAZOP study, installation of equipment and apparatus, construction of experimental setup, commissioning of individual equipment and documentation of SOPs
• Data collection (2012 - 2013)
Conducted experiments for data generation and verified CFD simulations with experimental data.
• Analysis of results (2013 - 2014)
Analyzed data using statistical tools
• Reporting research findings (2014 - 2015)
Documented technical deliverable and published results in journals/conferences
Worked in a project that involved real time mass and energy balance in an Oil Sands plant (Horizon Oil Sands, CNRL).
Wrote the user manual of a Matrikon product for Horizon Oil Sands project (CNRL).
Obtained training on Agile Project Management methodology.
PhD in Chemical Engineering, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada Thesis: Development of a new model for water-lubricated pipeline transportation of heavy oil.
Developed technical definition of the research project with extensive literature review. Designed, developed and operated lab-scale apparatus (for example, a bench-top capacitance sensor). Developed and executed challenging experimental procedures. Analyzed extensive experimental data and developed process simulations. Invented a unique utility of an existing technology (capacitance sensor) for pipeline transportation of bitumen. Thesis: Development of a novel sensor for bitumen-froth transporting pipelines.
Thesis: Water quality assessment of four rivers surrounding Dhaka city. Project: Designing an orange juice processing plant.
