Provide individual therapy, group therapy, psycho-educational classes, and crisis intervention services to adult, incarcerated individuals (primarily women) with significant mental health, neurological, substance dependence difficulties, or any combination thereof. Develop and write treatment plans for offenders with identified high-risk behaviors resulting in significant injury to self or others. Consult with administrative staff (including facility wardens and chiefs of security) regarding best standards of psychological practice and implementation of treatment plans for individuals at high risk of harming themselves or others. Provide training and consultation to correctional officers, unit managers, and correctional case managers. Write proposals to and otherwise consult with the Mental Health Clinical Coordinator of the Division of Female Offenders and the Chief Mental Health Officer regarding methods to improve delivery of psychological services in a correctional setting. Conduct assessment of intellectual functioning using the Wechsler Abbreviated Scales of Intelligence (WASI). Conduct personality assessment using the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI-II) and the MMPI-II. Use neuropsychological assessment measures such as the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) to monitor changes in cognitive functioning in individuals with traumatic brain injury and substance-induced mental health problems. Individually oversee and provide direct care services to the Mental Health Unit at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, a highly-structured treatment facility within the prison providing intensive psychological services to offenders with chronic mental health issues, severely disruptive or debilitating behavior problems, or traumatic brain injuries resulting in significant cognitive impairment. Oversee and supervise work of psychologist, master’s level clinician, and licensed clinical social worker working on the Mental Health Unit. Consult with other mental health staff in the implementation of specific types of psychotherapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Conduct intake interviews for the purpose of diagnosing offenders and determining appropriate therapy services for them. Assist in orienting and training new Psychological Services employees. Screen applicants for the department’s hostage negotiation team, using clinical interview and the MMPI-II. Served as Clinical Coordinator of Mental Health Services for female prisons and community-based prisons in the Oklahoma City, OK area from October 2013 to February 2014. Coordinated mental health treatment services and oversaw administrative duties at six prisons, in addition to maintaining other clinical responsibilities at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center.

Worked as part of a team to administer assessment instruments to children and adolescents diagnosed with low-incidence neurodevelopmental disorders, primarily adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD), Hunter's disease, Hurler's disease, Krabbe's disease, and Sanfilippo's disease. Collected, analyzed, and interpreted longitudinal data from intellectual, adaptive, and developmental functioning assessments. Researched lifespans and cognitive difficulties of children and adolescents diagnosed with low-incidence neurocognitive disorders.

Conducted psychological testing and collected data regarding cognitive and adaptive functioning of children diagnosed with rare neurodevelopmental disorders as part of a joint research project conducted by the University of North Carolina and Duke University Medical Center. Taught psycho-educational classes and gave monthly presentations to prospective therapeutic foster parents through Mentor, Inc., in Charlotte, NC. Collected data and conducted research on efficacy of services as part of a multidisciplinary study of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Pre-K/Head Start program. Consulted with, provided training to, and wrote treatment plans for preschool, elementary, and secondary school teachers of normally developing, developmentally disabled, and brain injured children and adolescents. Supervised pre-doctoral psychology interns and psychology practicum students at the University of North Carolina. Provided individual therapy and group skills training to adults diagnosed with borderline personality disorder using the dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) model through Wake County (North Carolina) Human Services department. Developed and implemented behavior management programs and learning plans for children in Pre-Kindergarten and Head Start programs.
