United Safety provides safety training, people and equipment to the oil and gas industry and specialize in H2S gas monitoring, renting gas detection equipment as well as breathing apparatus. Their corporate head office is located in Canada with the international head office located in Dubai and they currently operate out of 16 international locations. Major clients include Chevron, Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, Schlumberger etc. My main focus at United Safety is supporting our Business Development and Sales teams located globally. Major responsibilities include:
Attending international trade shows, organizing company booth, budget, marketing plan and designing and proofing all marketing material and graphics for show. Updating trade show landing page on website with focus on SEO, database development and direct email marketing
Writing white papers (mostly for SPE) for oil and gas conferences, working very closely with subject matter experts
Managing the production and re-vamp of marketing material such as company profile, brochures, international office flyers, equipment spec sheets etc, proof reading and ensuring error free deliverables
Work closely with external suppliers (print/mail/design)
Re-writing content for web with a focus on SEO, re-launch of new website
Creating master project experience spreadsheet with supporting documentation such as client reference letters, case histories, differentiated offerings, sales presentations for BD and Sales team
Writing and marketing companies differentiated offerings and producing case histories for past projects to support BD team
Hiring, training and managing a team (Marketing Writer and Graphic Designer/Video Editor)
Producing videos for web and e-marketing campaigns (CEO message, subject matter expert talks/webinars)
Setting up social media pages (Linked In, Facebook, Twitter)
SharePoint document publishing and promotion
Working with CRM to support sales/BD teams and promote use
Produced online interactive Sales and Marketing newsletter
Reason for leaving: I was hired on a one year contract and task was to get marketing initiatives up and running in Dubai office, and hire and train a junior marketing team.

While working at McDermott I started-up and managed the internal and external communications for Saudi Aramco’s Safaniya and KJO Ratawi Projects as well as ADMA-OPCO’s Zakum Water Injection Project.
Major responsibilities included:
Managing and training a team of four
Creating and marketing project identities through developing branding guidelines, project logos, presentation and poster templates
Organising and managing project events including sporting competitions, management lunch and learns, milestone events
Producing project branded newsletters, management bulletins, writing and editing articles ensuring key stakeholders are kept up to date on project progress (copy-writing, proof reading)
Setting up distribution lists for each project, direct email marketing to various stakeholders

Implementing Project Surveys, analysing findings, making improvements
Producing a marketing video for Saudi Aramco’s Safaniya project
Close liaison with Health and Safety department to produce and market relevant safety messages

Start up of Communications Department for Project, implementing various communications activities with our client Shell
Organising project events (milestone, annual)
Writing and editing the fortnightly newsletter and quarterly Project magazine

Running employee forums and coordinating bi annual employee satisfaction surveys
Managing ‘Pearl TV’ - Project news on LCD screens around the office
Involved in strategic planning of communications for a 45 000 man workforce (mostly illiterate)

While working in this role the companies’ corporate communications manager went on maternity leave and they asked me to cover both the Project and corporate roles which I did for 6 months before moving permanently to corporate.
Reason for leaving: London project operations were moving to Qatar and corporate role became available due to previous manager not returning from maternity leave so company asked me to fill in.
I was hired as an intern to manage a number of PR activities for the company including advertising on radio for the companies birthday, organizing competitions, organizing company events as well as some internal communication. This was a 3 month job while i was studying to get my PR diploma.

The concept was to start up a TV travel show aimed at young South Africans, encouraging them to travel and advise them on visa information as well as places of interest to visit in different cities around the world. Reason for leaving: Business went bankrupt and I was made redundant.
I ran a surf school and backpackers with a partner. We ran various surfing competitions and surf camps for our learners. I was responsible for all PR and promotion of the school and the Red Surf brand who were our sponsor. I was also involved in teaching both children, adults and foreigners how to surf.
