Fire Engineer job in Abu Dhabi Refinery, ADNOC Refining, Abu Dhabi
Looking after maintenance of safety equipment viz SCBA sets, fire systems, Fire & Gas detection etc in GC, Booster stations, Manifolds, Buildings, Storage tanks in Export facilities.
• Field HSE supervision for 5 Land Rigs (Drilling & WO) covering Rig sites & Main Camps.
• Responded to Well Control situations, oil spills and fires at Rig sites.
• Provided HSE support to Drilling Supervisor and awareness on HSEMS procedures to the Rig crew.
• Carried HSE inspections of workplaces highlighting hazardous conditions and unsafe behaviors.
• Verifications to ensure periodic inspections of lifting equipment, PSV/PRV’s.
• Checks on firefighting equipment, gas detection system, fire alarm systems, SCBA cascade systems, Ex-proof electrical fittings in hazardous areas periodically.
• Carried Level (I) incident investigations and follow-up as per the KOC HSEMS Procedure.
• Attended the rig site Safety Meetings conducted by the contractor to verify the quality and content of the meeting and to discuss HSE Alerts / Topics. Ensured safety alerts communicated from KOC are discussed in crew meetings.
• Reviewed & monitored Contractor's safe system of work implementation (Pre job safety meeting, PTW, LOTO, JSA & HSE Procedures etc.) in compliance to Companies procedures.
• Provided on the job coaching and safe practices guidance to Drilling Contractor teams as per KOC & Drilling Contractor HSE Policies & Procedures. Encouraged staff to STOP at-risk acts/behaviors.
• Reviewed Drilling Contractors Training Records as per contract metrics ensuring all employees are competent to perform the duties and highlight the deficiencies for further follow-ups.
• Reviewed with verifications the Contractor monthly HSE & KPI statistics for evaluations.
• Participate in KOC HSE Audits conducted at Rigs under the team and follow-up on the closure of recommendations.
• Tracked on closure of action items from Leadership visits / Site Verifications, Major incident investigation recommendations at Rig sites.
• Observed and evaluated the emergency drills viz BOP, H2S, Fire & Oil Spill conducted at the rigs.
• Observed and evaluated the Rig move activities by contractor ensuring KOC Rig Move Procedure.
Perform assigned jobs as per Company’s Tenets of operation & OE expectations. Promote company’s HSE Policy & HSEMS among employees and contractors at work places for enhancing good safety culture.
HSE jobs:
• HSE Inspections: Carry out safety inspections at work places. Verify welfare facilities to workforce are provided as per Company HES Policy, Tracking of HES KPI as per contract.
• MSW (Managing Safe Works): As a member of MSW Team: Conduct field verification at workplaces for Bypassing Critical Protection, Confined Space Entry, Excavation, Hot work, Lifting and Rigging, Isolation of Hazardous Energy, SIMOPS, and Work at Height activities.
• Behavior Based Safety: Make BBS observations at workplaces for office safety, driving and workplace behaviors on employees and contractual workforce, record in database for analysis.
• Incident Management System: Use of IMS tool for reporting, carryout investigations in a team, and bring up recommendations to prevent recurrence.
• Safety Trainings: Conduct Safety Induction, H2S safety, Air monitoring with portable gas detectors, SCBA & Fire Extinguisher trainings to Employees and contractors.
Fire Service jobs:
• Responding to fires, oil spills, and other emergencies at workplace.
• Ensure Fire prevention, Fire Protection & Fire Emergency responses meet Company standards.
• Raising work permits (ENGICA - Electronic System), conduct JSA, toolbox talks for works to be performed by fire team.
• Schedule and check periodic function tests of firefighting systems for tanks, process units, fire pumps, fire hydrants, hose reels in buildings.
• Coordinate with Maintenance Division to ensure timely PM activities on critical safety equipment viz PSV, HC detectors, and Fire detectors in work places.
• Organizing fire & safety awareness trainings and campaigns for employees & contract workforce in company areas and nearby community.
Projects:
• Association with Projects & Engineering Department: Participated in HAZOP & Risk Assessments for new and up-gradation projects. Review Safety Systems in line with NFPA & Company Standards specific to a project. Review contractor submittals for HSE requirements. Some of Projects associated with:
o Up-gradation of Fire System.
o New Metering Station Project at Al-Zour complex.
o New 32 Villas project in the Company Camp at Al-Zour complex.
o Wafra to Al-Zour Crude oil pipe line replacement.
o New Technology Center Building at Al-Zour complex.
Job Role & responsibilities / work performed:
Supervision of Fire staff. Respond to incidents at drilling sites, process units, and storage facilities. Planning and executing trainings on fire and safety to company employees and contractual workers. Carrying fire & safety inspections to find gaps if any, come with recommendations and follow-ups to close observed gaps for improvement in the system. Manage budget and procurement of fire & safety equipment / chemicals.
Exploration & Production - Onshore drilling operations activities:
• Supervision of Fire & Safety requirements during Rig-down, Rig move, Rig-up, Spud, drilling, well completion activities.
• As Safety Committee Member, participate in HSE meetings at drill sites.
• Carry out safety inspections and audits as per HSEMS in a team at Drilling site for activities like cementing, mud preparations, derrick floor, diesel generators, drill pipe handling etc, and Drill site staff accommodations. Find out violations, report to management, and follow-up for implementation of necessary corrective actions.
• Prepare Rig specific emergency response plans, and conduct drills to check the system, find the gaps and follow ups for improvement actions.
• Involved in a team to implement OHSAS 18001 & ISO 9001 management system for Drilling Rigs.
• Participate in a team to investigate incidents, and bring up recommendations to prevent recurrences.
• Conduct trainings on H2S safety, SCBA donning, and firefighting. Conduct safety campaigns at drill sites for awareness of employees and contractors in preventing accidents.
• Carry out checking and testing of large fire pumps to be used during major fire / blowout situations at drilling sites.
Exploration & Production -Offshore:
• Intermittent visits to offshore platforms for Safety inspection in ONGC Mumbai High fields.
Production installations, process units and storage terminals activities:
• Responding to emergency incidents, supervision of firefighting activities by fire staff.
• Liaison with mutual aid members from nearby industries for assistance in emergencies and emergency drills.
• Investigation of accidents / incidents in a team, follow ups for actions on lessons learned and recommendations.
• Executing the contract for maintenance of SCBA, ELSA sets of the Plant.
• Involved in a team in implementing OHSAS 18001 & ISO 9001 management system at Hazira Gas Plant, and few GGS/ GC’s.
• Planning and implementing periodic checks and maintenance of various fire equipment and protection systems with Fire and Maintenance teams.
Projects:
• Association with Projects & Engineering Department: Team participation in HAZOP & Risk Assessments for new and up-gradation projects. Review Fire Safety Systems in line with NFPA & Company Standards specific to a project. Projects associated with:
o Up-gradation of Fire System at Hazira Gas Plant
o New GC at Ramnad for onshore oil and gas.
• Respond to emergencies in the plant.
• Inspection of fire & safety equipment.
• First aid firefighting trainings to employees.
