PhD. in Mathematics, University Bucharest 2007-2011

Thesis Title: Analytical Methods in Study of Some Singular Integral
Equations (SIE) in Unsteady Aerodynamics.
Mentor: Dr. Adrian Carabineanu, professor at the University of Bucharest, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
Brief Synopsis of Research:
Most of the problems in fluid dynamics, generally, and aerodynamics, magnetofluid
dynamics, particularly lead to the singular integral equations. Some of these may be
reduced to BVPs or may have either analytical or numerical approaches. Based on the Lazar Dragos works: Magneto fluid dynamics (1975) and Mathematical methods in aerodynamics (1999), a detailed study of some hypersingular integral equations for with no analytical solutions known have been made and for some of them new me-
thods of solving have been improved. For some particular case of thin lifting profiles and wings, the classical results have been confirmed. The mathematical support is
based on distribution theory and the method of fundamental solution associated with complex functions, boundary value problems and elements of special functions.
During my PhD., I have also participated to the Seminars of the Continuum Mechanics within Department of Applied Mathematics and I have lectured many conferences.
In the last year, I reviewed some papers ref. Abel inversion problems for AMC.

"I know Stelian Grădinaru since 1989 when he became a student of my fluid mechanics and theory of distributions classes. Being in charge also with other mathematics and aerodynamics courses and seminaries, I had the occasion to directly supervise his work during that time and I've always considered him as one of my best students. I was very impressed with his interest in applied mathematics, theoretical aerodynamics and magnetoaerodynamics and I considered that he is prepared to continue the research in fluid mechanics areas. Later when he became a student at the Doctoral School of Mathematics when, in my position of his mentor I've noticed the evaluation of Stelian ref. to the complexity problems discussed with him during the four years of studying. Mainly, his research has been focus on finding of some analytical methods for some hypersingular equations in unsteady incompressilble aerodynamics and magnetofluid dynamics. In the last five years Stelian has been an active member of the Seminaries of the Mechanics of Continuum Media. Many of his results were published or are in press. To the best of my knowledge, Stelian is an intelligent person, hardworking and well-motivated. He is able to find quickly the best solution for high complexity problems with respect to the fluid dynamic and aerodynamics problems, I have noticed that he has very good abilities in higher mathematics teaching, programming and computer skills. Based upon above all, I have decided to write this recommendation letter and consider that, by a positive vote given to Stelian would have an unique opportunity to be part of the research team within your department. My decision was supplementary motivated by the abilities of Stelian, like: quickly learning, working with very good results both alone and in a team and efficiently coordinating other person's work."

"November 20, 2012 To whom it may concern, It is my pleasure to recommend Stelian Gradinaru for the position of Assistant Professor/Research or Post-Doc fellow in your department. Stelian was not my student but I know him since 1996 when he has become an active member of the Tuesday ”Caius Iacob” Seminar of Fluid Dynamics. I didn’t know about his intention to continue my tradition of study in theoretical aerodynamics. Professor Lazar Dragos asked me to care of the young student from that time and to evaluate his abilities for a possible scientific contact with him. For many years, Stelian has continued to come to our Institute and work together with me and my colleague Dr. Stelian Ion. I had the opportunity to evaluate him and I observed his interests in aerodynamics. To the best of my knowledge, I’ve found that Stelian has a high background in mathematics and he has ability to approach actual problem of fluid dynamics. In short, I give Stelian my highest recommendation. He is one of my finest colleagues - an outstanding researcher and very talented teacher. Stelian is one of the best mentors for his juniors colleagues. He would be a good catch for any department and I urge you to consider his candidacy seriously. For any information about Stelian Gradinaru please, do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Dr. Vladimir Cardos Senior Research at the Institute of Statistical Mathematics and Applied Mathematics of Romanian Academy, Bucharest email: v_cardos@yahoo.ca tel: (40)727329012"
