Aveng Engineering is an ISO 9001 engineering project house. Covering the complete life cycle of multidiscipline projects and operations. Aveng Engineering has two offices, namely Woodmead and Cape Town, and five different Divisions. The divisions are: Minerals & Mining, Power & Energy, Nuclear, Water and Central services.

Reporting to the MD, fulfilling the corporate role of Operating Group Business Intelligence (OGBI), Report key project performance metric, time keeping and overall manpower requirements for the organisation. With a goal to share all available project and managerial information to the required level within the organisation. The custodian of configuration management system and manage all corporate procedures and forms for ISO9001 system. Covering all the project control aspects within a multi discipline project environment, throughout the full life cycle of a project, from EPCM projects to LSTK projects.

As the Project Controls Manager responsible for the overall administration and technical direction of projects control function within the organisation, using both FIDIC and NEC contracting. The Project Controls department includes planning (P3, P6 & MS Project), cost control (Costrac, MS GP and Excel), documentation and material control (QDMS, QVDM & QMS) and all IT systems relating to project delivery. Have close alliance with estimating using (Candy & Excel) and risk (Cura, @risk & Excel), which was part of the department but recently reassigned due to company restructuring.

The programme manager for the strategic PIMS projects (Project Information Management System) which comprised of thirteen inter connected projects regarding project management tools and their interface with each other. Implemented systems aligned with best practices based on Construction Industry Institute (CII) and AACEI, aligned to the PMBOK approach. Incorporating Prince2 and Centrix methodologies to bolster Project Management.

Member of the Continuous Improvement Forum and the IT forum. Appointed company First Aiders.

Mentored colleagues doing their PMP exam and developed in-house Project Management training.

C&I Project Engineer at Ticor South Africa

C&I Project engineer for Phase 1B. Namely Ilmenite Smelter No1, Water Treatment Plant and Metal Treatment Plant. This includes the off-gas plant and CO gas distribution. I was responsible for the C&I portion which was over 3000 I/O excluding intelligent MCC and fieldbus instrumentation. I then continued with Phase 2, the second Ilmenite Smelter and water plant upgrade with a lead role in both the C&I Engineering and commissioning process.

My main task was the integration of processes and the Control systems for the eight areas/plants and the seven main contractors, maintaining a common standard of workmanship throughout the whole plant. The main contractors were sharing resources and equipment of the nominated supplier. I had a team of two C&I engineers reporting to me, with a pool of four Instrumentation superintendents responsible for the instrumentation fieldwork.

ISO 9000 and the TOP’s “Total Optimisation of Procedures” guide lines. I had full control of the project including budget and cash flow and authority to sign orders.
