Currently working as Sr. Project Development Engineer Refinery in QPI. QPI is a global investment arm and wholly-owned subsidiary of QP. My duties include;
• Hands-on experience in international downstream business ventures evaluation. Analysis of technical aspects (configuration, technology etc.), economic viability, financial model development, location, availability of feedstock, land & utilities, market & project risks.
• Development of global projects at during different stages, participation in Joint Venture.
• Development of Egyptian Refinery Project (ERC), carried out screening, evaluation and due diligence study, prepared final investment proposal, coordination with joint venture. Process engineering support during EPC phase. Review of engineering, HAZOP study etc.
• Leading the Feasibility Study (FS) of Algerian Fertilizer project (DAP/MAP). Managing Consultant's contract execution, licensor selection & coordination with JV partners.
• Prepared SOW for feasibility study and various due diligence studies, developed criteria & carried out Bids evaluation. Preparation of award recommendation reports.
• Evaluated various global downstream opportunities including Gabon refinery, Brunei Refinery & Aromatics, Ecuador Refinery, Gabon Fertilizer etc. & evaluation reports.
Worked as Sr. Process Engineer in Velosi Asset Integrity Abu Dhabi. Velosi provides Asset Integrity, HSE, quality assurance etc. to a number of oil and gas companies. My role included;
• Providing process engineering support to all functional groups of project team. Ensuring project objectives and all engineering related work performed to the efficient, safe and acceptable quality. Successful execution within time & budget.
• Carrying out HAZOP Studies of various projects.
• Provide Safety Critical Elements (SCE) Implementation Service to ZADCO. Identification & grouping of HSECES, development of Performance Standards & verification Schemes.
• Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) Study for Petronas Carigali Malysia.
• HSECES Independent Audit verifications for TAKREER Ruwais and Abu Dhabi Refinery.
• Carried out HSEIA Studies for Qatar Fuel (WOQOD) which involved QRA study, EIA, Fire & Explosion Analysis, COMAH Report, RAM Study etc.
Abu Dhabi Refining Company - TAKREER is one of the renowned Oil Refining companies. Following were my Area of Expertise & Core Responsibilities as Process Engineer:-
• Led a brown field operational improvement project & supervised EPC of various project packages including pumps, vessels, drums, exchangers, distillation column trays, Coalescer etc. at Abu Dhabi Refinery.
• Responsible for review and approval of engineering work performed by FEED and EPC contractor. Revalidation of FEED study. Review of PFD & P&ID, equipment data sheets, specifications, standards and technical evaluation reports, HAZOP reviews and SIL study.
• Experience in all aspects of Process Engineering applications at various Refinery process units including Naphtha Hydrotreating, Catalytic Reforming / CCR (Platforming) Units, MSF Desalination, Offsite and Utilities, . Acquaintance of all refinery units.
• Led Acid Cleaning of Desalination Units. Management of Catalyst loading / unloading activities, screening / removal of heel catalyst and inspection of Platforming Reactors.
• Monitoring and providing support to Operations staff during Unit Start ups / Shut downs.
• Monitoring / optimization of chemicals & energy consumption. Preparing technical specifications of operating chemicals, and filling materials and carrying out technical evaluation of chemicals and catalyst bids. Defining their re-ordering points.
• Performance monitoring of major equipment especially Reactors, Packinox CFE, pumps, compressors, exchangers, distillation column and rescheduling of shutdowns accordingly. Inspection during shut downs. Evaluation for the requirement of catalyst replacement.
• Proposing new plant modifications for process development & troubleshooting. Management of Change (MOC) procedure, process calculations and technical studies.
• Applied experience of plant monitoring software (PICS, PI), process simulation (HYSIS, Design II), development of PFD’s and P&ID’s, specifications, line sizing, and hydraulics calculation. Conversant with design codes, standards and environmental aspects.
• Project management Skills. Controlling project execution in-terms of budget, schedule and quality. Defining the project scope and agreements. Focal point for various projects.
Responsible for all aspects of process engineering at Naphtha Hydrotreating and CCR/Platforming Refinery Units, Utilities, Offsite and Effluent treatment plant including catalyst performance evaluation, optimization, troubleshooting, producing daily and monthly performance reports, controlling the chemical inventory and incident investigation.
Performance Monitoring
• Preparation of daily performance summary for performance monitoring including analysis of various operating parameters and laboratory test results, highlighting the abnormalities and recommending the corrective actions.
• Preparing studies to develop test and implement changes in plant operations according to production plans and varying feed stocks. To provide functional and technical assistance to various plant personnel in test-checking alterations, diagnosing process problems.
• Organizing system performance monitoring to identify potential problems of major equipments especially Reactors, Packinox exchanger, pumps, compressors, turbines, exchangers and distillation column and rescheduling of shutdowns accordingly.
• Liaising with process licensor/outside agencies like M/s UOP to share technical matter related to catalyst performance, plant problems & modifications, new technologies.
• Issuing the monthly plant health reports, evaluation of unit efficiencies, product yields, material and energy balance, chemical consumption, identifying possible trends and to recommend corrective actions.
• Optimization of chemical and energy consumption.
• Involves close monitoring of test run and close collaboration with the operations department.
• Provides technical assistance and coordination with other sections such as Instrumentation, Maintenance and Inspection.
• Performance evaluation of catalyst.
• Preparing technical specifications and carrying out the technical evaluation of chemicals and catalyst bids.
