Duties:
o Design experiments to support research in Nanoparticle Systems. Characterisation of Nanoparticle
assemblies using analytical and hydrodynamic techniques including Standard and Multi-wavelength
Analytical Ultracentrifugation; Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS, MALDI); FTIR; UV-Vis-NIR, Fluorescence
and Raman Spectroscopies; Electron Microscopy, Cyclic Voltammetry, Ellipsometry & Light Scattering.
o Computational data analysis and scientific writing skills.
o Managing the day to day running of the lab and responsible for research safety.
o Supervise and mentor graduate students.
Fundamentals of Biomolecular Science - D24BT7 and Structural Biology - D24BT8)
Duties:
o Organize lectures, grade student exams and laboratory assignments.
o Supervise and mentor 4 MSc graduate students per year.
o Liaise with industry collaborators on joint research projects.
o Coordinate laboratory sections for a large lecture course
o Research support (via design and execution of experiments) on lab projects involving insulin and diabetes
as well as lab management and effective house-keeping.
o Assessed student learning formally and informally using a variety of assessments and grading rubrics.
o Implemented student activities and projects using collaborative and individual learning approaches
o Biophysical Characterisation of insulin and insulin-like molecules using modern and state of the art
hydrodynamic techniques including analytical ultracentrifugation, chromatography, light scattering, neutron
scattering and differential scanning fluorimetry.
o Cloning, expression and purification of human proteins in prokaryotic systems (Demethylases - Jmj
domains; kinases) and subsequent biophysical characterisation in the framework of the Epigenetics Project
geared towards cancer research.
o Responsible for sample optimization for crystallization of human proteins, through solvent optimization
and identification of stabilizing ligands, and for profiling of target-ligand interactions.
o Assures reproducibility and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) compliance through adherence to strict
laboratory procedures for experiments and analyses.
o Planning, organisation & supervision of Practical Biology Examinations of the General Certificate of Education (GCE), Cameroon.
o Teaching Biology 710 and Chemistry 712 to pre-college students (Advanced Level).
o Planning and organizing meetings at the departmental level (Biology Department) to ensure smooth running of the department with regards to teaching and learning.
