My role was cross-functional in that I assisted in the Business Analysis, Software Engineering, Architecture, Database development and develop logical/physical models and assist senior leadership in all aspects. Ultimately I assisted in taking their complex business problems and simplifying it and providing solutions and the strategy for senior leadership to use to get there.
• Helping T Rowe Price modernize its 401k/Retirement software portfolio and introduce newer technologies into its software platform. (For example, phasing out Java and moving towards a Node.js and HTML5/CSS3 type platform \[Enterprise JavaScript\]).
• Provide strategic technical advice, expertise and skills to advance the Company’s technical platform (Architecture, Software Engineering Platforms, Web-Development, etc.).
• Assist and mentor all junior to senior level Business Analyst and junior software engineers.
• On a daily basis my role was to take Features written by the Product Owners (PO), analyze/architect (there where multiple Technical Review Boards) and provide solutions, then write user-stories with solid Acceptance Criteria, and assist in PSI planning (Potentially Shippable Increments). Using Kanban and ScrumBan and other Agile Techniques along with SAFe agile framework.
I was hired primarily to help strategize/grow Booz Allen's business analyst team and provide unique UI/UX capabilities that could distinguish Booz Allen against its competitors and in the tech-industry.
Main duty was to assist any project with designing, strategizing and prototyping new visualization applications that overcome traditional problems of scale, visual appeal, organization, large multi-source data inputs and other complex, dynamic UI/UX problems. Listen to and collaborate with all stakeholders in order to rapidly and accurately prototype and design/re-design UI/UX applications.
Utilizing Agile methods with HTML5/CSS3, JS/JQuery, MEAN stack (MongoDB, ExpressJS, AngularJS, NodeJS), D3.js, svn repository, and any other tools that assist in solving complex problems.
Intuitively create and deliver User Interfaces that not only visually appeal to all stakeholders but substantially remove the stress and complexity in using and interacting with complex user interfaces. Create wireframes and prototypes to demonstrate progress, ideas/new-concepts and for client feedback. Train other entry/mid-level UI/UX developers and Business Analysts.
• Senior Business Analyst leading effort to enhance, design, gather requirements, and strategize Army Information Architecture (AIA) assessment tool. AIA is the Army’s guidance documentation and reference architecture for moving information-systems towards a net-centric, information sharing platform.
• Liaison between all project stakeholders, coordinate schedules, resource/personnel planning, facilitate/chair meetings, and recommend process improvements and technical software strategy/adoption.
• Influence and promote new, innovative ways to solving problems to Government clients, senior/executive level personnel, and general stakeholders.
• Manage team of Business Analysts and software developers with light project management duties.
• Perform all BA roles as needed especially: requirements gathering; business process analysis/improvement; diagrams (data flow, business process, use cases, etc.); interact with all stakeholders; develop documents (functional/non-functional requirements documents; analyze and develop test cases, test scenarios, and test plans; and user acceptance testing.
• Assist in architecting, developing and coding web-applications utilizing wire-frames/mock-ups, HTML5/CSS3, JavaScript/JQuery, D3.js, MEAN stack (MongoDB, ExpressJS, AngularJS, NodeJS) and other js libraries as needed.
• Utilizing Agile/Scrum methodology (Jira/Confluence) with SVN repository.
• Provide expertise in UI/UX design and human-to-computer interaction using a holistic/minimalistic approach, incorporating a user-centered design (UCD) approach.
I was hired as a fulltime Government Employee to help management their ECM (Enterprise Content Management System). ATEC is the command center for all Army testing in the United States. ATEC oversees and develops policies for how each of ~8 Test Centers (distributed across the US) conducts testing for military equipment.
My job was to maintain the software systems, collect and develop new requirements and provide strategic technical decisions on which software technologies to adopt. I was able to successfully create and lead a Business Analyst branch in order to improve how software was developed.
• Maintain the existing ECM (OpenText ECM) and provide the strategy to convert OpenText ECM into a Microsoft SharePoint solution.
• Teach and Mentor Junior level developers and business analysts.
• Design and architect technical solutions to complex problems and provide expertise in computer-science related work.
• 50% Computer Science, 25% Business Analysis, and 25% Project Management.
• Provide leadership with technical advice/strategy, participate in the TRB (technical review board) and the CCB (change control board), mentor/train entry level government employees, resume review and any other duties that where needed.
• Technical:
o Develop Java based OpentText ECM software using web-services, HTML/CSS/JavaScript,
o Provide R&D into new technologies such as D3.js, HTML5/CSS3, Drupal, Alfresco, angular.js, etc. and how these technologies would impact the environment.
• Business Analysis:
o Introduced the concept of BAs and was instrumental in establishing the first BA team at ATEC. Provided insight and guidance into implement the Agile framework.
• Project Management:
o Simple/light PM duties for small software projects.
Primary duty as a consultant was to provide clients with technical expertise in systems engineering, advanced research and development, and information technology to support their mission.
Required to design and integrate large, complex software systems (mainly using SOA as a platform). Develop and manage system requirements. Assist management in contract negotiation, analyze proposals requests, and final proposal estimates and cost figures.
The main goal of this position was to assist and further the client's research in how to collect, store, manipulate, manage, and disseminate information in a cost effective, efficient, and safe manner across the organization’s entire distributed environment. The end goal was to assist clients in effectively managing information in the 21st century by leveraging SOA as a solution.
As part of the Strategic Technology and Innovation Team (ST&I), my job was to analyze the way clients perform their IT functions and provide technical improvements, process-improvements and solutions to their most complex problems. Our clients mainly where from the Government/DoD and dealt with information management. This was during the time period that Big-Data and Business-Intelligence (BI) was just starting to get popular. Our focus was on SOA and web-enabling legacy systems for clients.
Primary area of focus/expertise was in delivering Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) solutions to clients and helping clients implement/achieve Net-Centric capabilities as it applies to their business model. Evaluate and analyze client legacy systems and enhance business processes and optimize information flow within a service oriented architecture framework.
Technology used includes: Java, C#, XML/XSD/XSLT, Axis/SOAP, ESB, UDDI, ESM, Security Services, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Google Earth/Virtual Earth.
This was an entry level position as a programmer to develop Java/J2EE web-based applications for FEMA. A very small company (8 people total) that provided me with a good opportunity to learn and be involved in all the different phases and decisions in building a project from scratch to production. Technology used included: Java/J2EE/JSP/Struts, MVC architecture, Oracle Database, HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript.
