The manual contains guidelines for new Oil-palm investors and managers to guide decision making from the acquisition of land to the establishment of the plantation, following the international and national norms and regulations to establish sustainable plantations. The manual is accompanied by a DVD which contains a simulation exercise on the steps to follow to ensure sustainable new oil-palm plantations.

Consulting activities included: (a) designing a participant´s manual to guide the production of didactic technology transfer manuals and conduct the training sessions, (b) conducting training workshops for staff on the application of instructional design strategies, (c) coaching individual researchers in the development of the technology transfer guides, (c) editing drafts of publications, (d) designing the dissemination strategy among technical personnel of sugar mills in the State of Valley del Cauca, (e) conducting motivational workshops for technical personnel in the sugar industry to prepare for the use of technology transfer guides. International Technical Assistant at Ministry of Education - Peru

During this 860-day Peruvian commitment the international technical assistant (ITA) provided support to the Peruvian Ministry of Education to design and organize a competency-based curriculum for 50 VET beneficiary schools in seven geographical regions. Components of this task were: (a) to lead institutional workshops for education and employment, (b) adjust curriculum for the education of technical personnel in 20 different employment areas (tourism, automotive mechanics, nursing, etc.) (c) provide support to information gathering from the employment sector to adjust the academic offer according industry demands; (d) contribute to the formulation of guidelines for a base-line study of the project´s 50 beneficiary institutions, (e) evaluate a work-demand study performed by a third party consulting firm, (f) teach numerous workshops to train school directors and teachers to merge from the subject-matter-based curriculum to a competency-based curriculum, (g) coordinate a large number of publications (paper and digital) which comprised all the major achievements of the Project, (h) develop, with teachers from the National Education University -La Cantuta-, a teacher training manual for the development of learner-centered teaching skills and (i) contribute to the preparation of the yearly work plans (2007-2011), using planning tools (i.e. Log Frame).

Senior Reserach Fellow at International Center for Agriculture

During this period, as a Senior Research Fellow at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, with the support of DFID-UK I designed and conducted research geared to the development of a “knowledge management” model for extension workers. Model was tested with farmers in ten different sites and crops. The model which departed from the recognition of local knowledge as the basis to build new knowledge was efficiently applied by extension workers in the four agro-eco-regions of Bolivia. Researcher´s activities included: (a) research design, (b) insertion of research study within the framework of the Bolivian Agricultural Technology System (SIBTA), (c) team work with government and private sector technical personnel to train extension personnel and practice the “KM transfer methodology”. (d) data analysis of trial results, (e) publication of two books where this and other agriculture development innovations were reported. (See CV bibliography).
