Safety and Security Advisor to the Mozambique Marines onboard the Security- and Support vessels. I was appointed as a Team leader on several of the different types of vessels (Support-/ Supply- and Escort vessels) that were deployed to serve the “Drilling Operation.” Part of my “Daily Task” was to man the “Radar Systems” onboard the vessels as to detect foreign vessels and suspicious movements around the “Drilling Rigs”. I also had to ensure that the soldiers were posted correctly and that they were doing their duties as laid down in the “Standing Orders”, as well as to reprimand them when not doing their duties correctly. I also had to do all the retraining with all the new Marines returning back onboard after they were ashore for holiday. The weapons we were using onboard were all from the Eastern Bloc Countries (Communist Weapons) such as AKM’s, RPD’s, PKM’s, RPG 7’s, Dushkha 50 call, etc. I also had to oversee all the Daily maintenance and cleaning of all the weapons carried onboard. All “Emergency Drills”, in case of a “Pirate Attack”, had to be rehearsed on a regular basis during “Day- Time” as well as “Night- Time”. Part of the “Daily Tasks” was also to send Early Morning Reports of all the events of the past 24 Hours to all of the “Site Commanders” as well as the “Ops. Headquarters” in Pemba. I also had to see to the Hygiene and Moral state of all the Marines onboard the vessel during their “Tour of Duty”.
