As an Operations support officer, I was required to acquire tactical knowledge of procurement, logistics, and HR policies and procedures and support programs in planning, delivery, and executing all relevant purchasing, transportation and logistics, stock keeping, and hiring of staff. In addition, I was partially responsible for some financial elements, mainly tracking spending under activities and submitting regular reports to the Operations Support Manager. REACH operations department was, at its beginnings, a small pilot support team managing three different missions in Jordan, Yemen, and Syria. Other country programs outsourced their support activities including HR, finance, procurement, and logistics through a partner, ACTED. Our team was a transitional pilot working jointly with the partner and, at the same time, strategizing autonomous methodologies towards complete detachment and in-housing operational support activities.
