Isolation and Characterization of Lytic Bacteriophages against Escherichia coli.
In an era where antibiotic resistance is causing many problems particularly in nosocomial situations, phage and phage-based technologies may prove to be valuable antimicrobial alternatives for widespread applications in the future. The antibiotic resistance, clinical need and the availability of suitable bacteriophages combine to make this a potential ‘perfect storm’ with which to progress this new (but also very old) therapeutic approach into the clinic. Here, we aimed to isolate and further characterize suitable bacteriophages which may be useful in fighting back the hospital acquired infections. This may suggest as a valuable addition in the phage therapy research work to be applied clinically.
