Ph.D. program in Biological and Environmental Sciences (Ph.D. BES) is an interdisciplinary program that builds on the earlier M.Sc. in Environmental Science and new M.Sc. In bio-medical Sciences. This program serves other biology based MSc degree holders upon approval of the program committee. This is the first PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences in Qatar and the second PhD at Qatar University. The need for this unique program is of high importance to Qatar. The country has announced its National Vision 2030 which puts more challenge on the flagship university to create a new innovative, interdisciplinary and high quality PhD programs that can accommodate the small number of students with different science backgrounds yet give freedom for specializations in areas of national research priorities such as health and environmental domains. Its mission is to provide students with the most advanced research skills enabling them to carry out research independently, publishing and showing innovations and creativity.

Gain an understanding of how Lean and Six Sigma fit together. Understand the 7 deadly wastes (Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Over-Production, Over-Processing and Defects) and the impact on performance by focusing on them. Understand the DMAIC (Define, Measure, analyze, Improve and Control) problem-solving methodology and so be able to challenge waste in your business. Have an awareness of the 7 quality tools, and when and how to use them in order to tackle a problem in a systematic way. Understand the 3 C’s (Concern, Containment and Counter-measure) approach, and some lean tools that can be used to expose and address abnormalities. Understand the principle of VOC (Voice Of the Customer) and links to CTQ (Critical To Quality measures). Understand the leadership roles needed in the pursuit of a continuous improvement culture.

This M.Sc.program is a rigorous yet flexible (full‐time & part‐time) program taught by world class scientists/experts in the field.
