Responsibilities:
Patient care:
See patients in outpatient clinics, reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests (X-rays, MRIs etc.) to diagnose spinal conditions like scoliosis, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and fractures.
Develop personalized treatment plans, which may include conservative measures like physical therapy, medication, and injections, or surgical intervention.
Perform a variety of open and minimally invasive spine surgeries to correct deformities, alleviate pain, and restore spinal function.
Provide post-surgical care, monitoring patient progress and managing complications.
Communicate effectively with patients, explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and potential risks and benefits.
Surgical Expertise:
Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in spine surgery, including minimally invasive techniques (MISS) to improve patient outcomes.
Continuously refine surgical skills to ensure efficiency and patient safety.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physiatrists, neurologists, radiologists, and anesthesiologists, to provide comprehensive patient care.
Participate in multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to discuss complex cases and determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
Professional Development:
Actively participate in continuing medical education (CME) programs to maintain expertise and stay abreast of new developments in the field.
Potentially contribute to clinical research by participating in or leading trials to advance treatment options.
Consider mentoring junior residents and fellows, sharing knowledge and experience with the next generation of spine surgeons.
It is a 5 years program . The program structure combines: Clinical Rotations: Fellows gain hands-on experience by rotating through various clinical settings, treating patients with complex conditions specific to their chosen subspecialty. Surgical Training: Fellows participate in a high volume of surgeries under the supervision of experienced faculty surgeons, progressively gaining autonomy as they develop their surgical skills. Didactic Learning: Fellows attend lectures, workshops, and conferences to deepen their theoretical knowledge of the subspecialty. Research Opportunities: Many programs encourage or require fellows to participate in research projects, contributing to the advancement of the field. In the 4th and 5th years , I have focused on Spine surgery : which has given me expertise in diagnosing and treating all aspects of spinal disorders, from scoliosis and disc herniation to complex spinal tumors and fractures.
