My key responsibilities include Analysis and Design of RC and Steel Structures, Rehabilitation and Retrofitting of existing RC and load bearing structures. My job starts with study of architectural drawings and preparation of structural framing plans according to requirement of the structure, co-ordination with Architect and Contractor for better understanding of design and construction phases. After reviewing the soil investigation reports, Structural analysis models are then generated using various structural design software ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, GRASP and Design codes ACI, ASD, UBC, IBC etc, followed by preparation of construction drawings & documents (BOQs) . Visiting the construction sites for inspection and ensure that the work (Steel, concreting, water proofing etc.) has been carried out according to drawing specifications.
Following are some of major Projects in which I am involved as key member:
➢ KING ABDULLAH UNIVERSITY IN AZAD KASHMIR
An Educational project consist of G+4 stories departments, cafeteria, auditorium, Library, Mosque etc. located in high seismic zone (zone-4 as per UBC 97) of Pakistan.
➢ NAYA NAZIMABAD CITY KARACHI
A huge Residential project in Karachi includes 9 no. of buildings from G+6 to G+12 stories having single and duplex apartments and one G+3 stories Parking Plaza having capacity of more than 500 vehicles with 20 feet wide circular Ramps. The buildings are provided with Raft and pile foundations.
➢ PC HOTEL LAHORE PARKING PLAZA
A G+6 stories Steel Structure parking plaza with 3300 square meter floor area having capacity of accommodating more than 800 cars, located in high seismic zone (zone-4 as per UBC 97) of Pakistan.
➢ VIP STATE LOUNGE BENAZIR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ISLAMABAD
G+2 stories Steel Structure with Mezzanine floor 200 meters long and 50 meter wide State Lounge for VIPs, made with heavy girders and metal decks. The building is located in high seismic zone (zone-3 as per UBC 97) provided with isolated and combine foundation with RC tie beams.
➢ LUCKY ONE
The current biggest residential project of Karachi with 36 million square feet covered area consist of 8 no. of towers G+34 stories and 3 basement levels and G+4 stories Podium, . The main interesting feature of project is 40 feet deep basement having ground water table at 25 feet below NGL that required de-watering and tension & protection piles. I am involved since last 6 month in designing of slabs, beams, columns and other structural elements of Podium.
➢ GRAND HAYAT
A residential and commercial project consists of 2 no. G+24 stories residential towers and 1 no. 50 stories hotel. The interesting feature of the project is 60 feet long connecting bridge between two residential towers at 21st floor made with heavy girders and metal deck.
➢ RETROFITTING AT MARRIOTT HOTEL KARACHI
An existing 20000 square feet G+1 story building consists of rooms and corridors. The job required removal of center columns and construction of large BANQUET halls. Retrofitting was done by using box steel beams 24''X 24'' made from 1'' thick steel plates below existing RC beams to transfer the load previously taken by deleted columns to existing end column and, re-strengthening of existing RC columns and footings was also done by providing extra concrete and steel on rough made surfaces in order to gain required load carrying capacity.
