The client of this project is Urban Planning Department, Deputy Ministry for physical planning, The Ministry of municipal and rural affairs, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On of the Main objective of the 2 years project aims in the first step to prepare the digital Base Map for the Damam region, Qatif and Ras Tannura Governorates. The processes included Satellite Images Rectification and geo referencing based on known control points, Data conversion from hard copy maps to digital format using On Screen Digitizing and based on Satellite images (Quick Bird 60 Cm. Resolution), also Topology, contour lines, roads, and geology Maps in the Cad environment, also finally preparing the BaseMap - which include parcel numbers according to each approved plans and the other layers - in the GIS ready format using Arc Info Workstation Software. In the planning step I participate in the social and economic spatial selection of the household (3% of the total household)
My main tasks in this project include:
1- Preparing transforming all digital plans and layers that are representing base map by
package of Arc GIS programs
2- Quality control for digital plans and data to match the accuracy of Satellite images
3- Updating and completing the main components of Base Map in terms of topology and
Urban planning

The area has many different types of land cover according to FAO standard. The process

Six GIS layers compose The base map .those are the irrigation network, the road network
the railways layer, the urban settlements layer, the administrative boundaries layer and the water bodies layer (lakes) . The features of each layer were classified into certain class according to the feature classifications of the 1:100, 000 topographic maps of the E.S.A .
