My duties in this position were varied and numerous, these include:
•Use, maintenance and calibration of HPLC for test item quantification.
•Use, maintenance and calibration of FTIR spectrometer for qualitative testing.
•Use, maintenance and calibration of UV-vis spectrometer for test item quantification.
•Development of HPLC methods for test item quantification
•Preparation of calibration and quality control standards for API quantification.
•Validation and implementation of HPLC methods for test item quantification.
•Preparation of study plans for test items analysis.
•Processing of analytical data.
•Preparation of scientific reports.
•Backing up and archiving of HPLC data.
•HPLC troubleshooting.
•Use of FLx Microplate Fluorescence reader for analysis of formulation efficacy on infected biological materials (ATP assay).
•Microbiological Limit Test (MLT) of pharmaceutical preparations to European Pharmacopoeia (EP) standards.
•Preservative Efficacy Test (PET) for formulation development.
•Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) analysis. Etc.
•Use and maintenance of autoclave for sterilising glassware and agar.
•Use and maintenance of laminar flow hoods.
•Preparation of calibration standards for ATP analysis.
• Preparation of Micro-organism Cultures.
•Preparation of agar set and pour plates for MLT and PET
•Determination of microbial concentration using UV-Vis spectroscopy
I followed and completed a programme for a Masters in Analytical Chemistry with special emphasis on petrochemical and pharmaceutical analysis. As part of my end of year project I investigated: Factors Affecting the Accuracy of Analytical Data Obtained by UV Spectrometry. In doing so I investigated the influence of factors such as: Band width Wavelength accuracy Cell type Solvent type LOD LOQ etc. This project give me very good experience in validation of analytical procedures and also the use and maintenance of UV- Vis spectrometer, which proved to be very valuable in my current employment.
On completion of this 3years degree program I graduated with BSc Hon in Chemistry with GPA of 1/first class.
