Background:
A risk management model was developed for domestic food control in the zone, which was based on classifying the existing food activities to groups depending on the health risk associated (i.e. high, medium and low) benchmarked with the international best practices and the success stories implemented particularly in Ireland with the addition of regional food activities, taking in account the unique climate conditions, the consumer habits and cultural background.
Duties:
Responsible for managing the safety standards of food products and food manufacturing at the Local market by:
Inspect food possessors, wholesalers, bakers, and retailers in an assigned areas to ensure that sanitation, food wholesomeness, labeling, and temperatures meet Jordanian laws, rules and regulations.
Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
Implement the technical and health requirements for licensing food establishments in accordance with ASEZA regulations, codes and policies.
Keep records of inspections and audits undertaken, analyze data and process though the software to the supervisor.
Imported food products have been categorized into three groups; High, Medium and Low-risk food groups. The control is exercised through the computerized Selectivity Module of the Automated System for Custom Data (ASYCUDA) which was massaged into a closed cycle to adapt the food categories and their selectivity criteria.
The laboratories control the procedure followed from receiving high risk food group, testing samples according to the national standards and delivering of the final report to the food control side.
Duties:
•Manages the laboratories to ensure feasible laboratory operations.
•Manages on day-to-day basis the analyses in all laboratories.
•Manages on day-to-day basis the laboratories technical and operational staff.
•Supervises the development of test methods and operational procedures regarding food analyses.
•Updates the comprehensive food database.
•Participates in the process of preparing for certification and accreditation to international standards.
The need to raise awareness in food safety became apparent in order to achieve the appropriate level of consumer protection and assure sustainable development, allowing for informed choice based on science and introducing the guidance role of inspectors in the market.
Campaigns were launched targeting food catering outlets, where awareness materials were distributed based on the food activities and accompanied by field visits, the aim is to provide a learning environment where people can exchange and expand their knowledge and become more aware with the many hazards that can cause adverse health effect.
Duties:
Enhance consumer awareness, aiming at behavioral change among local society for better food safety.
Preparing awareness and educational materials in the field of food safety.
Train the staff in the field of food safety (HACCP, GMP, and GHP).
Carrying out awareness campaigns for the local society of Aqaba (Schools, Public health care centers, and Market)
Participates in the process of preparing and reviewing national standards in order to ensure compliance with the international standards (Codex Alimentarius) and government regulations.
