Practicum: Assigned by the course’s supervisor Dr. Adel Alsowiliem to Ali Ibn Al-Hussein Elementary School as a teaching trainee:
• Teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grade English classes in basic language skills such as phonics (correct pronunciation), reading, simple grammar rules, and listening by using the GTM approach.
• Theoretical showcasing of the student book prior to solving exercises using the workbook section. Revision, smart class, projects, and let’s play segments may be given as homework assignments to 5th and 6th graders (GTM).
• Substituting for absent teachers during waiting periods in the first four elementary grades where the students are taught to memorize and provide word examples of the English alphabet and 5th and 6th grades where progress is continued in their respective curricula.
• 30 to 45-minute recess supervision.
Reason of Departure: The graduate/trainee is relieved of duty after successfully completing the course.
Activities and Societies: 1. Volunteered with parental assistance in composing an essay celebrating the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's National Day. 2. Joined and co-organized a professor-led campaign to ban smoking with the aid and assistance of classmates through the distribution of posters containing religious instructions and university warnings of implementing penalties. The College of Languages and Translation has made efforts in uniting the majors of translation, literature, and linguistics. Goals include: 1. Development of main language skills. 2. Flawless and accurate transference of written texts and oral media from SL to TL. 3. Appreciation and critical evaluation of thematic literary works such as poetry, novels, classical and modern dramas with character description and analysis. 4. All linguistic branches: Phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. 9. Additional but mandatory courses such as theology, Islamic jurisprudence, Sharia Law, and culture, Classical Arabic grammar, and applied Arabic editing, basics of curricula, and school administration.
