Back with the UniBase Project.
ClearCase Admin,
Test/QA Environment Support
Automation
Due to my extensive experience in the UniBase Project, understanding the system level so well, I am the goto guy when things fall apart.
Automation of deployments: I created a systemv (QDeploy) to deploy to a wide range (env agnostic) applications, including Weblogic, utilising Qt/C++ Shell Scripts and a MariaDB backend. Quite proud of it.
We reviewed other deployment tools like ansible but found that our 'multiple environment with multiple nodes' created a bit of a configuration nightmare.
QDeploy has an easy user interface which makes managing Env-App-Node configuration very easy and all information are stored in the DB.
It also has tracing (node transactions stored in the DB) which makes Change Management (release: artefacts, configuration baselines) a breeze. For example: you can compared the release-baselines between environments to see what changed between releases, what needs to upgrade/downgrade etc. for equivalency.
Mainly tasked with ClearCase administration and pre-production environment support for the UniBase Project. Build/Deploy/Troubleshoot. Supporting a Weblogic/Tomcat C/C++ and Delphi applications.
This is when I created 'ClearGui' which is a Qt/C++ tool to manage ClearCase (proud of it!).
For the Vodacom Project:
HP-FMS (Fraud Managements System, GSM Tech) application support and customisation (in C++);
Oracle OCI (C++) development with some PL/SQL;
Embedded-C development for GSM POS Device.,
I automated test procedures for HP-FMS using shell scripts and reduced test-cycles from 8 hours to seconds. The company was not pleased as they billed by the hour. But I cannot help but improve things.
My 'Odin' alias file: which includes aliases and shell functions to automate everything I could :-)
(This alias file is still being used by UniBase support and development)
Tier 2 International Support on Telecommunication Systems.
HPUX Client Support, Automation (Shell/C++/TCL), a whole range of Hardware Telecom Equipment Support, EMOS, and much more.
Siemens was a great place to work and they send me on many training courses in Europe (Germany, Italy and Netherlands).
I left because of crime in Pretoria, and relocated to Cape Town.
Worked as a contractor installing and configuration of SDH Transmission Equipment.
Started as a telephone installer, moved to faults then to Telematics (precursor of ICT) and then to Transmission Systems.
Qualified from a 3 year apprenticeship in 1994.
