This is part of the 9.5km of the whole underground section of the KL MRT project. Machine used is Earth Pressure Balance TBM of 6.7m diameter manufactured by Herrenknecht AG.

Duties include:

• Construction of launching shaft using diaphragm walls, managing the delivery of assembly of the TBMs, preparation of site facilities to support TBM operation, liaison with TBM supplier, consultant and sub-contractors as well as the Client.
• Manage the total strength of approximately 30 staffs comprising of managers, engineers and supervisors as well as various sub-contractors and suppliers on site.
• Administer the contract to ensure all works are completed within the specified budget, quality and in a timely manner in accordance with the fixed milestones.
• Handling technical, commercial and contractual issues arising during the implementation stage of the project and managed to resolve them to ensure all issues will not hinder the work progress.

• Led the negotiation session with the Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport in order to get the Letter of Award for the project. Managed to finalise and seal the contract within the required budget.
• Formulated and drafted the appointment of various consultants (such as detailed design consultant, environmental consultant and architectural consultant) as well as various sub-contractors (including soil investigation and surveying). Managed to get all consultants and sub-contractors on board in a timely manner.
• Liaison with various government agencies such as KTMB (Malaysian Railway), the Ministry of Transport, the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department and the Land Public Transport Commission.
• Weekly reporting to the Board of Directors on the progress of the project.

Construction of the Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART) Project. The project is the first project in world combining two schemes; flood mitigation scheme and motorway scheme utilising 13.28m bored tunnel using TBM by Herrenknecht. The total length of the tunnel is 9.7km with the stormwater tunnel also shares the center 3km of motorway tunnel.

Duties include:

• A team member in the selection process of the TBM used for the SMART project, including attending design meeting with the TBM’s manufacturer.
• Involved in preparing various Method Statements with respect to tunnelling operations.
• Monitored the production of precast concrete segments used for the project.
• Managed the implementation of soil investigation works using soil probing, tomography resistivity survey and microgravity survey.
• Managed the implementation of various soil improvement works such as jet grouting, compaction grouting and chemical grouting.
• Implemented various ground monitoring methods to monitor ground movements during tunnelling such as building settlement markers, ground settlement markers, inclinometers, building tiltmeters and standpipe piezometers.
• Exposed to other tunnelling methods for the construction cross passages in the tunnel such as drill & blast method and NATM method.

• Quality control and inspection of the built rings.
• Managed the construction of invert concrete in the tunnel and installation of M&E services (linear heat detectors, power rails etc). • Coordination of all resources and manpower during tunnelling operation.
