JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Organizational Relationships:
1.1 Reports to Cardiac Operating Room Head Nurse/ Unit Supervisor
1.2 Responsible for Cardiac Operating Room Staff Nurse
1.3 Liaises with Other Charge Nurses
2. Duties and Responsibilities:
2.1 Delegate responsibilities to nurses working under his/her control.
2.2 Monitor the performance of junior colleagues.
2.3 Display good effective styles of leadership.
2.4 Ensure that high standard of nursing care is provided.
2.5 Undertake all the managerial responsibilities of the unit under his/her control and demonstrate managerial competence.
2.6 Create an atmosphere effective good nursing practice as well as enhance the morale of nurses under his/her control.
2.7 Maintain continuity of care by establishing a cooperative rapport with working colleagues.
2.8 Display the ability to organize daily routine to be given to patients at all times.
2.9 Communicate with patients and relatives regarding patient’s condition and other problems which may occur.
2.10 Prepare the unit prior to medical team rounds.
2.11 Order adequate supplies for the ward and make certain that the ward is well stocked.
2.12 Monitor duty rotas as to provide effective cover.
2.13 Counsel nurses on various aspects of their work when the need arises.
2.14 Identify patients and family’s needs for education then provide the patient and/or his family with the necessary information regarding patient illness.
2.15 Participate in the teaching of junior colleagues.
2.16 Maintain contact with other departments to secure needs of patients e.g. kitchen, laundry and etc.
2.17 Carry out the orders of the physicians and maintain treatment and care prescribed.
2.18 Attend and participate in departmental meetings, organized his/her ward meetings and record minutes of the meeting.
2.19 Display safety with regard to the storage of dangerous drugs.
2.20 Identify patient’s and family’s needs for education then provide the patient and/or his family with the necessary information regarding illness & the required care, diet restrictions, basic infection control guidelines, treatment explanation, use of medical equipment and how to carry out activities of daily living.
2.21 Respect the patient right according to the hospital policy and inform him about his responsibilities when needed.
2.22 Participate in all quality management and patient safety activities within his/her department.
2.23 Be aware of standard precautions for infection control and implement the infection guidelines in his/her day to day activities.
