I was employed in the capacity of Deputy Managing Director of East Coast Radio, KZN’s biggest commercial radio broadcaster. As Deputy MD, I was responsible for overseeing managers in the Marketing, PR, Regulatory Affairs, Human Resources and CSI departments. Prior to being named Deputy MD in 2002, I was Editor: News, Sport & Current Affairs. This was an Executive Management position, which entailed management of staff and co-ordinating activities within the news and sport department. Responsible for the strategic planning, production and presentation of major events that demanded an outside broadcast, such as the Dusi Canoe Marathon, Comrades Marathon and 2003 Cricket World Cup. I have also presented the weekday morning show The BIG Breakfast, together with the lunchtime show and the afternoon drive show, Bumper to Bumper. In my time at East Coast Radio, I also produced and presented the weekly East Coast Radio Top 20 and the weekly world chart show, Global Hot Hits.

The talk show addressed a diverse area, which included sport, politics, crime, community safety, health, education, social and economic issues. I was appointed a member of the Interim Management Committee assigned to oversee Portfolio of Current Affairs, News and Sport and to manage the transition of the radio station post-democracy. Capital Radio was the first independent radio station in South Africa and started broadcasting in December 1979. Capital News was uncensored, unbiased and challenged the apartheid regime who tried to shut down the radio station which it viewed as a threat to its laws.
