Job Description:
I. Holding Area Nurse
• Checks the Operating Room List for the day, making sure surgeries are allocated to the appropriate theatre of which facilities and equipment are available. Double checks the staffing assigned for capacities to handle such cases.
• Communicates with the Ward/Unit regarding the preoperative preparation of the patient. This includes the surgical informed consent, history taking, preoperative medications, laboratory results and procedures ordered and the present status of the patient.
• Collaborates with the surgeons, anaesthetist and other members of the surgical team regarding the flow of their surgical cases for the day.
• Receives endorsements from the bedside nurse.
• Performs timely and accurate documentation of all pertinent observations and patient care rendered using the ORSOS and the patient's file.
• Attends to emergency/trauma cases, facilitating the availability of the surgical instruments, supplies and equipment needed.
• Directs and supervises nurse trainees and patient care technicians.
• Performs related duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor from time to time.

II. Circulating Nurse
• Receives patients from the Holding Area Nurse.
• Establishing rapport with the patient and their significant others.
• Performs nursing assessment of patient's condition before the surgical procedure, verifies patient's identity, confirm the informed consents (general consent, surgical consent, anaesthesia consent and the blood transfusion consent), surgical site verification for laterality, and necessary documents needed for the scheduled surgery.
• Ensures the OR theatre is set up correctly and sterility is maximized. This includes checking its inventory of surgical supplies and implants, the availability and functionality of the equipment to be used, presence of the ancillary personnel such as the Radiology technicians, Ortho technicians, and others.
• Initiates the surgical time out prior to anaesthesia induction with the attendance of the Operating Surgeon, Anaesthetist, Anaesthesia technician, and Scrub Nurse. And performs surgical sign out at the end of the surgery.
• Collaborates with the surgeon to develop the care plan for the patient during the surgery.
• Positions and repositions the patient correctly on the operating table with the surgeon's preference and according to the procedure to be performed while ensuring safety and comfort.
• Hooks up any necessary suction and cauterization equipment, performs catheterization using aseptic technique and skin preparation of the surgical site ensuring sterility.
• Provides the surgical team with sterile fluids and medications as needed and also replenishes the surgical team's supplies if they need additional disposables or instruments.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgical team, works hand in hand with the scrub nurse to help maintain the sterile field in the operating room. Ensuring that it will not be compromised during the procedure.
• Functions as the first responder during Codes, securing the crash carts, announcing the code and documentation of the said event.
• Performs a timely and accurate documentation of all observation and patient care rendered during the whole course including the sponge count, care of specimen, needed stationaries and the like.
• Continually evaluates the patient's condition during the procedure and makes changes to the care plan as necessary.
• Performs immediate postoperative care to the patient.
• Communicates with and wheels postoperative patients to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit or Intensive Care Unit together with the anaesthesia team with the appropriate monitoring devices and documentation.
• Performs related duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor from time to time.

III. Scrub Nurse
• Assists in various surgical procedures as assigned by the Clinical Nurse Coordinator: specializes in paediatric surgery (orthopaedic, general, urology, and neuro-surgery), yet not limited to. Able to scrub in all disciplines: Trauma/Emergency, ENT, Orthopaedic, Spine, Plastic, Ophthalmology, Gynecology, Urology, Neuro-Surgery, General, Thoracic and Vascular Surgeries.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgical team: Prepares and sets up the surgical area, laying out instruments and ensuring adequate supplies according to the surgeon's preferences.
• Performs surgical handscrub, gowning, gowns and gloves the surgical team and assists in draping the patient according to the routine procedure.
• Equipped with appropriate knowledge to follow the progress of the procedure and anticipates the surgeon's needs, having the correct items available immediately when requested. Operates specialized equipment to be used: knows what instruments and equipment to use and to handle them correctly.
• Performs the counting of instruments, sponges and needles prior to the start of the procedure, during and before the surgery ends together with the circulating nurse. Verifies the completeness of surgical count.
• Saves and labels the specimen handed by the operating surgeons.
• Maintains the sterility of the field, and is vigilant in the aseptic practices of each of the surgical team members.
• Prepares necessary medicines used intra operative such as drips, flash and dressing.
• Assists in the application of dressing, while assessing the site and securing it thereafter.
• Tidying up the patient and performing assessment of the pressure areas, cautery plates placements and probable surgical burns and reporting them to your circulating nurse and physicians.
• Securing the patient's safety upon repositioning.
• Performs the aftercare of the room and used instruments and wheeling it to the decontamination area with proper endorsement to the in-charge.
• Performs related duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor from time to time.

I. Operatingn Room Nurse

I. Holding Area Nurse

II. Circulating Nurse
• Receives patients from the Holding Area Nurse.
• Establishing rapport with the patient and their significant others.
• Performs nursing assessment of patient's condition before the surgical procedure, verifies patient's identity, confirm the informed consents (general consent, surgical consent, anaesthesia consent and the blood transfusion consent), surgical site verification for laterality, and necessary documents needed for the scheduled surgery.
• Ensures the OR theatre is set up correctly and sterility is maximized. This includes checking its inventory of surgical supplies and implants, the availability and functionality of the equipment to be used, presence of the ancillary personnel such as the Radiology technicians, Ortho technicians, and others.
• Initiates the surgical time out prior to anaesthesia induction with the attendance of the Operating Surgeon, Anaesthetist, Anaesthesia technician, and Scrub Nurse. And performs surgical sign out at the end of the surgery.
• Collaborates with the surgeon to develop the care plan for the patient during the surgery.
• Positions and repositions the patient correctly on the operating table with the surgeon's preference and according to the procedure to be performed while ensuring safety and comfort.
• Hooks up any necessary suction and cauterization equipment, performs catheterization using aseptic technique and skin preparation of the surgical site ensuring sterility.
• Provides the surgical team with sterile fluids and medications as needed and also replenishes the surgical team's supplies if they need additional disposables or instruments.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgical team, works hand in hand with the scrub nurse to help maintain the sterile field in the operating room. Ensuring that it will not be compromised during the procedure.
• Functions as the first responder during Codes, securing the crash carts, announcing the code and documentation of the said event.

• Assists in various surgical procedures as assigned by the Clinical Nurse Coordinator: specializes in paediatric surgery (orthopaedic, general, urology, and neuro-surgery), yet not limited to. Able to scrub in all disciplines: Trauma/Emergency, ENT, Orthopaedic, Spine, Plastic, Ophthalmology, Gynecology, Urology, Neuro-Surgery, General, Thoracic and Vascular Surgeries.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgical team: Prepares and sets up the surgical area, laying out instruments and ensuring adequate supplies according to the surgeon's preferences.
• Performs surgical handscrub, gowning, gowns and gloves the surgical team and assists in draping the patient according to the routine procedure.
• Equipped with appropriate knowledge to follow the progress of the procedure and anticipates the surgeon's needs, having the correct items available immediately when requested. Operates specialized equipment to be used: knows what instruments and equipment to use and to handle them correctly.
• Performs the counting of instruments, sponges and needles prior to the start of the procedure, during and before the surgery ends together with the circulating nurse. Verifies the completeness of surgical count.
• Saves and labels the specimen handed by the operating surgeons.
• Maintains the sterility of the field, and is vigilant in the aseptic practices of each of the surgical team members.
• Prepares necessary medicines used intra operative such as drips, flash and dressing.
• Assists in the application of dressing, while assessing the site and securing it thereafter.
• Tidying up the patient and performing assessment of the pressure areas, cautery plates placements and probable surgical burns and reporting them to your circulating nurse and physicians.
