Education

Master's degree, Public Health
  • at Newcastle University
  • November 2013

2013 Master of Public Health – Newcastle University, NSW - Australia As a part of my plan of continuous career development I took the decision of studying a MPH degree. In my opinion MPH is not anymore an accessory; I consider it an essential step for health practitioners in building their career on both clinical and professional levels. Apart from core courses of study of Clinical Epidemiology, Bio-Statistics, Health Ecosystems and offcourse Public Health; I picked four elective courses for fields of study that I believe to be the most important in current health affairs: 1- Global Health Systems and Policy: including health workforce, financing, service delivery, medical products, information systems and health policy, and how these impact health interventions and health status. 2- Health Program Evaluation: program goals and objectives; evaluation designs, including experimental and quasi-experimental designs; qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques; instrument design, reliability and validity: pre-testing of health materials; economic evaluation; collation, reporting and dissemination of results. 3- Quality and Safety in Health Care: quality improvement programs as a multidisciplinary approach in the health field. 4- Pharmacoepidemiology - Policy and Economic Issues: regulation and legislation relevant to pharmaceuticals; affordability and equity of access to therapeutic drugs; the assessment of the cost-effectiveness of drugs; and the incorporation of these elements into national drug policies.
