LECTURER
SIR SYED COLLEGE, THALIPARAMBA. KANNUR, KERALA
Total years of experience :14 years, 6 Months
As part of the current work with the role of lecturer, I am teaching Biochemistry, Physiology, Developmental Biology and Zoology (Chordata and Non-Chordata) papers to B.Sc Zoology and B.Sc. Botany students. In addition, guiding students in their academic projects (research) and also actively engaged in the other activities of the institute.
I have joined this institute as Research Fellow in the Research project funded by the
BRNS (DAE, Government of India), the work is being focused on the optimization of
irradiation for improving shelf life of shell fishes employing different advanced biological techniques.
I have been awarded
Ph.D. for the research on the topic “Studies on the effect of irradiation on the cellular,
biochemical and microbial aspects of the edible crab Scylla serrata” by Kannur University through this institute .
In addition, I have also engaged classes for UG and PG programmes in the department of zoology of this institute during the tenure.
I have worked on the Biodiversity of Insects in the sacred grooves of northern Kerala
with special reference to soil and water conservation under the position as JRF at the Centre
for Water Resource Development and Management, Calicut, Kerala
I have been awarded Ph.D. for the research on the topic “Studies on the effect of irradiation on the cellular, biochemical and microbial aspects of the edible crab Scylla serrata” by Kannur University under the guidance of Dr. Sudha Kappalli, Associate Professor, P.G. Department of Zoology & Research Centre, Sree Narayana College , Kannur, Kerala -670 007 (ksudha50@rediffmail.com; 9447689646). For my research work, I have employed the techniques including Spectrophotometry, Electrophoresis (including single cell gelelectrophoresis/ commet assay), Thin layer chromatography, GC- MS/FID and Electron microscopy besides the basic techniques such as histology, histochemistry and colorimetry. Apart from this, I have also used basic microbiological techniques and molecular microbiology such as Isolation of DNA, amplification 16s rRNA and Identification of bacteria through 16s rRNA sequencing.
I have done two year M.Sc. in Zoology with specialization in Entomology. the course include theory and practical papers divided into four semesters and one dissertation in the last semester.
I have done three years B.Sc. in Zoology with Zoology (include 6 theory and 3 practical papers and additional project work) as the main subject, Chemistry (Two theory and one practical papers ) and Botany (Two theory and one practical papers ) as subsidiary subjects and English (Three theory papers ) and Malayalam (Three theory papers ) as first and second language respectively.
I have done two years 'Plus Two' course (Higher Secondary School) in science after passing SSLC (10th School) with a good grade (78%). The subjects studied during the programme include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in addition to English and Malayalam as first and second languages.
