Operation and maintenance manager at Petrodar Oil Operating Company P.D.OC
  • Sudan
  • January 2006 to August 2012

a- Making the annual operating plan for the plant in order to achieve the target of satisfying the consumer demand for power to carry out all production activities in site together with other services. From this operating plan the cost of all relevant activities and materials such as fuel, lubricants, spare parts and consumables are calculated, that makes the annual budget for the year.
b- Following up and executing the drawn plan by sticking to running the plant as scheduled in order to avoid any deviation that would make differences in the budget. Also making amendments to the plan whenever any discrepancies occur for any reasons.
c- Managing the maintenance activities which result from implementing the annual plan which mainly consisted of preventive maintenance ranging from light to heavy overhauls. This is done according to the equipment manufacturer manual instructions.
d- Dealing with corrective maintenance activities that concern fixing the problems resulting from any irregularities during running which may occur at any particular part of the plant.
e- Raising reports concerning all activities of the plant such as daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports. Beside that there other reports dealing with the arising problems during operation, with suggestions of solutions or enquiring to have solutions or to make necessitated modifications that lead to plant performance improvement. Such reports are made of course after scientific study with the concerned engineers.
f- Safety of the plant is considered to be the top priority of the management, so that the plant O&M manager must devote a large area of his responsibilities to take all measures to implement safety regulations in order to guarantee safety of the plant and all working staff.
g- To coordinate with other departments in issues relevant to power plant.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer at Greater Nile Operating Oil company. G.N.P.O.C
  • Sudan
  • November 1999 to September 2002

I joined GNPOC as a contractor mechanical engineer. During that period I was responsible for pumping station No3 which consists, of pumping units of diesel-crude oil operated engines, crude pumps, electrical generators, air Compressors, water pumps, well pumps, and their auxiliaries. I was responsible for carrying out the preventive and corrective maintenance of the mechanical equipment of the whole station. This included scheduling to forecast for the necessary spare parts needed relevant for every type of maintenance level. Also raising reports about all activities and analyzing the performance of the site. Beside all that I was the head safety team.

Plant Manager at National Electricity Corporation ( N.E.C)
  • Sudan
  • September 1988 to September 1999

During this period I was the manager of Wad Medani thermal power station of National Electricity Corporation ( N.E.C) which consisted of the diesel-furnace run engines generating units. My work and responsibilities were as follows:-
a- Operating maintaining and managing the plant. This included carrying out light and heavy overhauls. That of course included planning, preparing, supervising and execution of the maintenance whether it was light or heavy overhaul, preventive or corrective maintenance.
b- Managing the staff besides supervising the performance of the technical staff to avoid any malfunctioning of the plant and also taking the responsibilities of official work.
c- Preparing the needed spare parts for the plant to keep it running without stopping or break down and efficiently as possible.
d- Drawing the annual budget for the plant with the cost of all activities together with the expenses of spare parts, fuel, lubricating oil and other relevant matters in order to obtain an economical performance.
e- Monitoring and controlling the operation of dismantling and assembly of the machineries during overhauling and maintenance.
f- To implement safety regulations taking all necessary precautions and measures to keep the plant and working people as safe as possible.
g- Raising reports to the headquarter including the data of plant performance and the problems if there were any with suggestions of solutions for them either that was in technical or management sides.
h- Beside the above I was also able to do some modifications to improve the efficiency of the plant. That was done by replacing four Turbo chargers by others brought from another station. The brought turbo chargers needed to have some modifications to be done for the fittings in order to suit our engines. The modifications were made and the turbo-chargers were fitted to our engines the result of which was a comprehensive improvement of the plant efficiency.
Also I made similar things to couple an alternator of different shape and model to suit one of our engine whose its initial alternator was burnt.
From the above it seems that my work was not only to run and manage the plant as prescribed by the manufacturer but also to seek for necessary possibilities to make modification to improve the performance of the plant.

planning and efficiency chief engineer at National Electricity Corporation ( N.E.C
  • Sudan
  • June 1985 to August 1988

At this period I was holding the post of planning and efficiency chief engineer at Sennar hydro-power station (NEC) which consisted of Kaplan water turbines prime movers. The specifications of the job were mainly as follows:-
a- Making plans to carry out the scheduled maintenance of mechanical equipment of the plant which consisted of water turbines prime movers with their auxiliaries and also to carry out corrective maintenance.
b- Tracing the performance of the plant as a whole and checking for efficiency.
c- Finding out reasons for any efficiency declines and work to cure them in order to keep the plant running as efficient as possible and at same time to minimize the break down by taking the necessary precautions to avoid that. This was done by strictly sticking to carry out the preventive maintenance as prescribed by the equipment Manufacturer.
d- Preparing the needed spare for the plant.
e- Supervising the maintenance execution and making checks and revises to confirm the correctness of carrying out the maintenance operation.
f- Participating positively in the safety committee of the plant.
g- Raising technical reports to the head quarter containing the cost of Generating the KWh.

At that time I worked in the post of Water engineer with common electricity and water corporation (C.E.W.C) at the head quarter at Wad Medani town. I worked as a mechanical engineer and carried out works that concerned solving problems of the water network pipes, and water consumption meters together with other technical water works problems. I travelled to many towns such as Kosti, Eldueim, Hassaheasa, and Singa. That area now includes four States (Gezira, White Nile, Sennar and Blue Nile). I contributed in solving problems arising from management and performance in those plants.

I was posted as an assistant mechanical engineer. At that time the mechanical engineer could work at any mechanical position either it was in electricity generation or water plant because at that time Ministry of works was responsible for almost all the water and electricity works in Sudan and it was called public utilities.
At that time also I participated in the new water extension work at Eldueim town such as water clarifier, filters and water pumps with both high and Iwo heads. Also I participated in doing the water pipes net works from design to construction.
