Till date Emirates Aluminium is an $11bn joint venture between MUBADALA, Abu Dhabi state-owned investment vehicle, and Investment Corporation of Dubai under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE. EMAL is the largest green-field aluminium smelter project ever, and will be the largest single-site aluminium smelter in the world, on completion of Phase 2, producing over 1.3 million tonnes per year.
Head of Business Planning - Financial Modelling, Planning, Reporting & Analysis (FP&A)
• Leading EMAL's strategic finance team and responsible for business modelling, financial planning, analysis, forecasting and management reporting.
• Selected as "Highflier" from Finance department, as part of EMAL Talent Management and
Leadership Development Program.
• Developed a corporate strategic business model (incl. all production units such as power, carbon, reduction and cast house) to budget and formulate EMAL's 5 year business plan, to track EMAL's performance against budget and to forecast EMAL's cash flow. This model also serves as a Business Intelligence reporting tool (as like SAP reporting tool) within the company.
• Leading the implementation of SAP business planning and consolidation (BPC) project to automate and accelerate budgeting and reporting process.
• Assist CEO and CFO in preparing Board and shareholders' presentations with required analyses.
• Accountable for preparing 5-year business plan, consolidating budget data from all departments, updating the model to prepare budget financial statements and KPIs. Present the business plan to the Executive Committee (ExCo) to get the approval.
• Responsible for preparing rolling 18 month cash flow forecast to ensure EMAL's short-to-mid-term cash requirements are arranged.
• Drafted EMAL's modeling methodology standards; document was presented to ExCo, approved without any changes. The standards are followed by all modeling teams within EMAL.
• Developed two comprehensive, Life of Smelter Discount Cash Flow (DCF) models, along with all financial statements, to value EMAL Phase 1 and Phase 2 projects. It was submitted to Abu Dhabi Crown Price Office, as part of valuing Abu Dhabi Government Investments.
• Designed and developed EMAL's business evaluation model to value prospective mergers and acquisitions projects.
• Prepare and deliver monthly management report, tracking month, YTD performance along with full year forecast against plan to the Board, ExCo and shareholders. Responsibilities include gathering and synthesizing company-wide data, updating business model, writing Executive Summary on behalf of the CEO, perform trend, waterfall and variance tree analyses, preparing commentary for the variance and collating departmental reports across the company.
• Introduced the concept of "Flash Report" in EMAL. Developed a model to create EMAL monthly flash report to send an early indication of operational highlights & issues along with expected financial results to senior management and shareholders before monthly financial close.
• Plan and execute quarterly appraisal for all departments within EMAL i.e., how each department performed against Plan and their forecast for rest of the year with commentary.
• Prepare and deliver pricing forecast pack to track the monthly actual average and mid-month forward curve data of key macroeconomic parameters relevant to EMAL.
• Maintain EMAL's Phase-1 funding model and involved in developing Phase-2 funding model. Both were developed by world's leading financial advisory houses.
• Report daily snapshot of LME prices to senior management using Bloomberg.
• Benchmark EMAL's performance against industry peers across the globe.

• Developed a comprehensive, multi-currency strategic business model to summarize several business units, to value and to optimize the net worth of RTIT by interpolating selling prices, production plans, opex and capex. The model also measures the sensitivities with respect to changes to key drivers including FX rates, price, operating cost and carbon tax.
• Assisted a major project to defend Rio Tinto against BHP Billiton's takeover bid. Reviewed and maintained financial models developed by top-tier investment bankers to make sure that it adheres to in-house models in terms of valuation.
• Developed generic mine and smelter models to value any prospective projects. This model is currently used to value 4 prospective mine and smelters of RTIT.
• Prepared and delivered Managing Director's Report (MDR) to Executive Committee and financial controllers on a monthly basis. Responsibilities include gather and upload monthly financial results to Hyperion Enterprise, tracking of actuals against forecast and budget, analyzing the variances and commenting the reasons behind the variances.
