• Performs thorough clinical nursing assessment of patients under his/her care and those who need treatment in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit.
• Implements plan of care in an organized manner, observing proper infection control.
• Evaluates nursing care provided to fully assess its effectiveness and to take necessary/ corrective action
• Admits/Discharges patients observing the proper policy and procedure
• Prepares the patient and the necessary equipments for any diagnostic procedures and assists the patient and the clinician when necessary.
• Prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.
• Carries out therapeutic nursing procedures delegated by the head nurse.
• Gives a comprehensive report and endorsements of the latest condition of the patient.
• Collects samples for any laboratory investigations strictly observing proper infection control practice. Follows up all done investigations.
• Responsible for setting up intravenous infusions.
• Monitor patients' fluid intake and output to detect emerging problems such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
• Assist physicians with procedures such as endotracheal intubation, CVP insertion, TPM insertion, elective cardioversion and defibrillation.
• Administer blood and blood products, monitoring patients for signs and symptoms related to transfusion reactions.
• Safely administering medications observing the 7 rights in giving medications. Administer medications intravenously, by injection, orally, through gastric tubes, or by other methods.
• Responsible for checking emergency equipments/instruments used in Neuro ICU.
• Set up and monitor medical equipment and devices such as cardiac monitors, mechanical ventilators and alarms, oxygen delivery devices, transducers, and pressure lines.
• Escorts patients to the trans-in unit or clinic for any urgent diagnostic procedures or special investigations.
• Demonstrates competence in CPR.
• Observes Professional ethics and courtesy to patients, staff and patient’s family.
• Regularly responds with crew members on active calls; emergency and non emergency
• Provide medical assistance during emergency situations, such as CPR, AED, prevent shock, control severe bleeding, prevent spinal damage, etc.
• Evaluate a patient’s condition to determine the right course of treatment
• Monitor patient’s condition and keep it stable while en route to the hospital
• Aid in the transfer of patients to the emergency units of hospitals
• Help to resuscitate patients in an emergency before hospital admission
• Create a patient care report and take notes of the medical treatment given to the patient
• Keep the equipment clean after use; check and replace damaged and used supplies
• Help to calm down the family members of the victim and the public on scene
• Decontaminate the interior of the ambulance if used to transport a patient suffering from a contagious disease
• Provides on-scene support to crews and patients as needed.
• Investigates clinical incident, complaints, and vehicle accidents.
• Maintains professional communications with other EMS agencies, police, fire, paramedics.
