Acting as the key deputy to the managing director, I spearheaded the expansion of our team from its initial setup to a robust group of 7 over the course of a year. Scope of work includes communications, business development, strategy consulting, process improvement, and project management for the company and its international projects to support sustainable tourism development, destination management, marketing, hospitality, and training. Some personal highlights include projects with GCC tourism boards, a sustainable tourism training for Diriyah Gate Development Authority, an EU Green Week webinar, and leading a team of executives.
Working in the remote Dahar region in the south of Tunisia for 6 weeks to support the DMO with developing a business plan, destination development plan, marketing & branding strategy, and field work for data collection, interviews as well as content development and storytelling while living with a local Amazigh family, which made for an immersive experience and as a result, robust outcomes.
Enhancing the communications, visibility, and positioning of the organization and its donor-funded projects in EMEA by designing and implementing communications strategies and developing content for digital channels to improve thought leadership/ positioning and highlight project updates and impact stories to support business development efforts. This included social media posts and longer features using the narrative approach to storytelling as well as storyboarding, film production, editing, and photography, including interviews with beneficiaries in local communities across Jordan. I was also researching and writing studies, white papers, op-eds, insight articles, and blogs on different topics in International Development including Sustainable Tourism, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, optimizing for SEO where relevant. In terms of media, the role entailed writing press releases for national and regional media as well as quotes and speeches for ambassadors and other high-profile speakers.
Identifying and pursuing Business Development opportunities and contributing to proposal writing. Maintaining up-to-date capability statements and sourcing appropriate consultants. Attending donor and governmental conferences and meetings on behalf of the company, and developing a clear understanding of projects, staff and firm capabilities, and communicating to potential consultants and clients.
Working closely with the founder on starting and scaling the business from its early stages through building a brand, developing processes, hiring, training, and managing personnel, and strategizing growth into multiple locations. On the marketing side, the role involved creating and evaluating online marketing campaigns (social media and search engine marketing), identifying new relevant tools, and evaluating and improving existing strategies. I also designed and produced all communications material, including posts, website content, event invitations, and promotional videos, ensuring all visual and written content is in tune with the brand's identity. The role also entailed community management, customer service, negotiation and sales with international clients, relationship management to improve customer experience and increase loyalty and retention, and continuous thinking about new, innovative ways to create more value added and revenue-generating services.
