Held a two month trainee-level position with the Institutional Sales Desk taking part in a variety of projects regarding the MENA region. Throughout the two month period, I gained vast knowledge in the field of investment banking. Being my first working experience it was invigorating to be in an environment which gave me the building block to my planned career in finance and Investment Banking. In that period, I was involved in three main projects across the Fixed Income Sales and Wealth Management desk. In collaboration with the Debt Capital Markets team, a shared initiative was launched to prepare Investor profiles for all clients in the MENA region tracking investor tastes, preferences and past transactions. In relevance to the Wealth Management desk, I engaged in creating an integrated database with the appropriate programming that generates and sends the quarterly performance sheets of structured products to the bank’s clients. In addition, I was exposed to negotiations in a Chinese private equity fund in the making. To say the least, a vast array of information that expanded my knowledge and understanding of the field that I am more than eager to keep developing in.
Through my projects, many day to day time consuming activities where cut down; performance sheet generation now takes 5 mins instead of 20 mins the process it used to take. In addition, the profiles provided a helpful standard for other HSBC branches which took the initiative and might indeed provide and international profiles for all the bank’s customers for future purposes.
