• Provision of emergency nursing care to patients by effectively utilizing the nursing process
• Assess, plans, implements, and evaluates patient’s care.
• Receives endorsement from outgoing shift and makes an endorsement to the incoming shift
• Makes general rounds with the outgoing shift paying special attention to those who are critically-ill, or to those who are receiving special treatment/procedures.
• Directs assignments, in the absence of the unit manager, to nursing staff and/or student affiliates
• Monitors patients’ vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and temperature including Neuro-vital sins monitoring, Glucose monitoring and others.
• Reports immediately any undue procedures
• Assists physicians in procedures such as endotracheal intubation, tracheostomy, defibrillation, thoracentesis, CTT insertion and significant changes in patient’s condition
• Triages/Sorts patient according to the level of care needed; critical, acute or primary cases
• Carries out physician’s orders in a timely manner
• Performs basic procedures like intravenous line insertion, nasogastric tube insertion, foley catheterization
• Performs basic life support and advanced cardiac life support
• Checks and facilitates consent for admission and management
• Checks and facilitates consent for procedures
• Administers prescribed medications and treatment accurately.
• Engages patient’s family or significant others in providing patient care
• Serves as a liaison between the patient and hospital personnel
• Maintains safe and conducive therapeutic environment for the patient.
• Explains nursing procedures and treatments ordered to gain patient’s cooperation and allay apprehension
• Admits, transfers and discharges patients in accordance with the institution’s established guidelines and policies
• Assists during ambulance conductions and/or patient’s transfer to other institutions.
• Respects patient’s decision regarding refusal of medication or procedure, home against medical advice, cancellation of consultation while ensuring proper documentation at the same Administers blood and blood products as ordered and monitors patients for any possible signs of blood transfusion reactions.
• Works in different areas of designation within the emergency room like Critical, Acute and Primary areas, Trauma, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Triage areas.

• Performs other duties as may be assigned, like; triaging, outreach program, and urgent community calls.
• Handles equipment such as, infusion pump, ECG machine, cardia monitor with pulse oximeter, mechanical ventilator, defibrillator.
