Job Description:
* Assessing patency of patient's vascular access (AV fistula or shunt) for the presence of bruit and thrill.
* Making a thorough assessment of patient, and taking note of symptoms of uremia/ fluid overload such as edema, dyspnea, crackles, and puffy eyelids.
* Cannulation of AV fistula and graft.
* Perform Intrajugular dressing, aseptically and heparin lock on patient with IJ.
* Priming of hemodialysis machines.
* Initiating hemodialysis and giving the correct dose for anticoagulants as ordered.
* Monitoring patient's vital signs throughout the treatment and notifying physicians when necessary.
* Performing blood transfusion during hemodialysis and monitoring for adverse reactions.
* Educating patients/families regarding diet and fluid intake restrictions including the proper home care/management of AV shunts, fistulas and grafts.
