The King Abdulaziz International airport (KAIA) expansion includes a 670, 000 square meters passenger terminal complex with a twin crescent footprint. It includes 94 boarding bridges, lounges, an airside hotel, food and retail facilities. The expansion also includes construction of a transportation center featuring a rail station, a 136 meters high air traffic control tower, taxiways, roads, tunnels, utilities networks, support facilities, fuel tank farm, internal gardens and walkways. Engaged by Dar Al Handasa as HSE Manager for the KAIA development project, I was responsible for overall implementation of HSE management in the project implementing the requirements set by General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). Leading a team of 8 safety engineers in different zones and areas of the project and developing measures and practices that prevent accidents and ensure compliance with standards. Conduct weekly walkthrough and continuously monitoring the workplace for hazardous safety and health conditions and ensuring hazards are corrected, eliminated or guarded.
Engaged by ThyssenKrupp Saudi ltd to provide professional QHSE services to all the functions and operations of the company, as well as in project teams as QHSE expert. Monitor QHSE procedures, performance, progress, preventive and corrective action plans company-wide and as a whole Communicate information on the QHSE Management System throughout the organization and promote awareness of QHSE best-practices. Advise management on the safety requirements for multiple projects, and client requirements as well as industry best-practice. Develop and implement QHSE management systems, processes, and procedures that improve business operations in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and BS OHSAS 18001. Work with the crews and safety staff to improve safety standards by setting a personal example, participating in inspections, audits, and accident investigations as required. Monitor the execution of projects in co-ordination with the management team, ensure that all works are carried out with due regard to QHSE operating practices and company procedures.
The project entailed construction of Iconic Capital Market Authority (CMA) Tower expanding over an area of 5.627 m2 comprising of a 77 storey high-rise Tower (approximately 385m high).Responsible for project safety including implementation of company HSE Planning & Management system in compliance with company rules and regulations. Coordinating and attending HSE Meeting, Operational meeting, Top Management meeting and actively participating in decision making to improve safe working conditions /practices to achieve optimum safety standards. Provide HSE leadership and technical expertise to company and sub contactor’s personnel to continuously improve HSE.
