Summary my dessertation All alternatives for drilling conventionally should be exhausted before committing to floating mud cap drilling, as it is a very high risk technique. The well is on the verge of being uncontrolled at any time during the drilling operation. When mud cap drilling is anticipated, specific well control procedures should be in place prior to penetrating the loss zone. It should be matched with the characteristics of the zone. Successful use of a floating mud cap can result in the penetration of the loss zone without setting an extra string of casing
