I had the opportunity to work as a Site Civil Engineer on the MASAR Project in Makkah, undertaken by Nesma Contracting Company. The objective of the project was to construct a state-of-the-art transportation system that would provide efficient and comfortable transportation for the residents and visitors of Makkah during the Hajj and Umrah seasons.
My role on the project was to oversee the civil engineering aspects of the site. I was responsible for coordinating and managing the construction activities, ensuring adherence to project specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations. I worked closely with a team of engineers, supervisors, and contractors to ensure smooth execution of the project.
One of my main responsibilities was to review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure accurate implementation of the design. I monitored the progress of the construction work, conducted regular site inspections, and addressed any technical issues or challenges that arose during the construction process. I also coordinated with various stakeholders, including architects, subcontractors, and government officials, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
As a Site Civil Engineer, I was responsible for ensuring the quality of the construction work. I implemented quality control measures, conducted inspections, and performed tests on materials and structures to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards. I also managed the documentation and reporting of quality control activities, maintaining a comprehensive record of all construction-related processes.
In addition to quality control, I was involved in project scheduling and coordination. I worked closely with the project management team to develop and update construction schedules, ensuring timely completion of milestones and delivery of project objectives. I also monitored the availability and allocation of resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to ensure efficient utilization and productivity on-site.
Throughout the project, I maintained a strong focus on safety. I implemented safety protocols, conducted safety briefings, and monitored compliance with safety regulations to create a safe working environment for the construction team. I also actively participated in safety audits and inspections, identifying and mitigating potential hazards to prevent accidents and injuries.
The outcome of the MASAR Project in Makkah was the successful construction of a modern transportation system that facilitated the movement of pilgrims during the Hajj and Umrah seasons. My contributions as a Site Civil Engineer included ensuring the quality and timeliness of the construction work, coordinating with various stakeholders, and maintaining a safe working environment.
Overall, my experience on the MASAR Project provided me with valuable insights into managing large-scale construction projects, emphasizing the importance of effective coordination, quality control, and safety. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to the development of infrastructure that would enhance the transportation experience for the residents and visitors of Makkah.
