My responsibilities as Senior Lecturer are listed below:

6. Develop Medicine Utilisation and Pharmacy Education (MU & PE) research group agenda
7. Coordination of MU and PE research group’s routine activities
8. Review of research protocols for correctness of the scientific methods
9. Review of research protocols for ethical integrity
10. Review of manuscripts for publication
11. Coordinate scientific review of manuscripts
12. Support data analysis, report writing, and production of manuscripts
13. Build research capacity through mentoring
14. Review information for public consumption e.g. on vaccines against COVID
Achievements:
- Recognized by the students body for excellent lecturing skills. Receive a certificate for this.
- Through Drug-Safety Surveillance at the Therapeutics Information and Pharmacovigilance Centre:
• Detected an increase in serious and life-threatening reactions associated with Nevirapine (generated a pharmacoepidemiologic report)
• Confirmed the increase in serious and life-threatening reactions to nevirapine (generated a pharmacoepidemiologic report)
• Outcome: The Ministry of Health and Social Services deferred the original plan of giving Nevirapine to all pregnant females.
• Wrote a Dear health care worker circular that was disseminated nationwide. The purpose was to guide health care workers on how to recognize nevirapine-related adverse reactions and how to respond,
• Provided live communication to regions on nevirapine safety through
• Submitted two reports to USAID: one on signal detection (2012) and the other on signal strengthening/confirmation (2013).
- Successfully hosted two international conferences on medicines utilisation research: (Theme: Medicine Utilisation Research in Africa, Influencing patient care and Policy.)
• 26-28 June 2017; Venue: Faculty of Health Sciences: University of Namibia
• 18-21 June 2018; Venue: Faculty of Health Sciences: University of Namibia
- Completed and submitted a report to the presidential commission on the use of misoprostol for the prevention of Post-Partum Hemorrhage.
• Problem: increases in mortality secondary to post-partum hemorrhage
• Objective: to find out if misoprostol can be used safely to prevent postpartum hemorrhage in the absence of oxytocin, in Namibia.
- Completed and submitted a report to the Ministry of Health and Social Services on the effect of miconazole buccal tablets in the management of oral candidiasis.
• Issue: Miconazole buccal tablets marketing
• Objective: To assess effectiveness and budget impact of addition of miconazole buccal tablets to the Essential Medicines Lists
- Completed and submitted a response to the Ministry of Health and Social Services on the benefits/risks of using Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) house sprays as an intervention against malaria.
• Problem: Increase in morbidity/mortality associated with malaria
• Objective: To assess the effectiveness and safety of using as DDT an indoor spray
- HIV clinical services were initiated in Military barracks following training of pharmacy health workers (Uganda)
• Problem: Lack of pharmaceutical management of antiretroviral drugs resulting in absence of HIV-related clinical services
• Objective: Build capacity of non-pharmacist personnel on the pharmaceutical management of antiretroviral therapy.
- Produced a protocol to investigate whether switching antiretroviral practice in Namibia was based on laboratory findings. NB: Study was approved by USAID.
