The Rail business comprises over 500 staff in the UK and 350 located in India, and are presently working on the largest Rail projects in the UK including London Bridge Station, Crossrail, Crossrail 2, Paddington, White Chapel and Liverpool Street Station Redevelopments to name but a few.

My main responsibilities within this role include:

Provide proactive operational and commercial support for a range of projects within the business sector. Review of contracts, advising on commercial matters, attending and chairing project and bid reviews, compiling of monthly reconciliations and project financial reports.

• Carry out in depth project reviews with Project Managers to ensure that the project is delivering in line with budget and contract program.
• Undertake pro-active commercial support to Project Managers on live projects with a particular focus on variation management and assisting in the preparation of claims as required.
• Preparation of monthly management reports for the sector, including management accounts, project performance, analysis of utilization and summary of disputes.
• Review contract documentation and liaise with both client and internal legal to reach acceptable terms in line with Group policy.
• Manage project delivery teams to ensure those teams deliver in a timely and effective manner.
• Provide support to Project Managers in negotiation of contracts and final accounts with Clients.
• Provide Operational support to offices throughout the UK and India

My main responsibilities within this role include:

Financial Control:
• Continually review, maintain and improve billing, debt, purchase orders and ledger postings against budget and YTD;
• Drive commercial contract performance by continually reviewing areas for improvement including overheads, resources, sub-contractors, suppliers and materials;
• Provide financial support and direction at project level.
• Monitor the financial performance of all contracts and provide monthly reports to the Managing Director identifying reasons for variance from budget, future risks and opportunities.
Reporting:
• Ensure that financial support is provided to Contract Managers and that financial information on individual contracts is reported consistently and accurately;
• Prepare accurate financial reports in line with strict monthly timetable including full Profit & Loss account with analysis and commentary, Budget reconciliation and detailed project profitability reporting;
• Involvement in the preparation of annual project Budgets in conjunction with the Finance Director and Managing Director;
Added Value:
• Ensure that those responsible for delivering individual projects fully understand the financial and commercial details of contracts to enable optimal performance and risk management;
• Carry out regular reviews of all contracts with a view to developing new opportunities / service lines offering added value to clients and improving margin where possible;
• Train non-finance staff in use of financial systems ensuring complete, consistent and accurate financial reports.
• Establish a procurement process and procedures across the business, ensuring target margins are achieved and exceeded.

My main responsibilities within this role include:

• Manage a team of 12 Quantity Surveyors.
• Monitoring cash flow, workload and profit margins of several divisions:
o Capital Works £36.5m per annum.
o Repairs & Maintenance £14.5m per annum.
• Compile Value Cost Reconciliations, Key Performance Indicators, monthly financial and commercial reports
• Participating in monthly management meetings with senior executives and national board members.
• Liaise with department heads to ensure effective lines of communication within company.
• Liaise with Clients representatives to ensure continued customer satisfaction.
• Source tender leads and manage tender submissions.
• Oversee and manage all contracts with suppliers and sub-contractors.
• Directly oversee NEC3 option A, B & C contract administration on key high risk projects.

Major Achievements in this position include:
• Successfully established commercial awareness within all contracts, working with an existing work force which was transferred to our company upon award of a major contract from local government.
• Within 3 months of taking the new position I reviewed the repairs and maintenance divisions year to date performance and identified several under claims which totaled approximately £1.2m, these claims where submitted to the client and a settlement was agreed doubling the net profit of the contract within the tax year.
• Revitalised an existing supply chain through negotiation and competitive tendering techniques. In one example I was able to successfully negotiate a confirmed saving of 19% on a subcontract package valued at £1.8m for a major capital project, effectively doubling the margin within the contract prior to work commencing on site.
• Successfully negotiating the award of a major capital project valued at £7.8m. This was achieved through instigating and leading the design and construction team in Value Engineering sessions, effectively reducing the original tendered sum from £11m down to the client’s budget.

My main responsibilities within this role include:

Major Achievements in this position include:

• Successful delivery of 10 Primary Care Trust facilities over an 8 week period, working within a sterile live environment on night shifts ensuring the facilities where clean and ready for use the following day by members of the public. Works included new flooring, ceilings, decoration, resurfacing and M&E.

• Effective and productive management of a Contract which was underperforming on Time, Quality and Cost. Stooperdale Hall is the northern headquarters of RPMI, an investment company operating throughout the country. The phased refurbishment of the listed hall was behind program when I joined Sendrig, I have successfully carried out management and staff changes within the team, increasing the level of quality, reducing the program by 17% and ensuring the client retains Sendrig Construction to complete the refurbishment.

• I successfully Project Managed 33 projects for Durham University over a 9 week program during the summer of 2013. Projects ranged in value from £10, 000 to £550, 000 and included the refurbishment of the Three Tuns Hotel to form part of the university’s student accommodation portfolio, the full refurbishment of 4 listed terrace properties in the Centre of Durham for use as teaching and administration facilities, and the refurbishment of 291 separate rooms which included teaching facilities with full AV installation and Halls of residence. All projects where completed on time and to budget, the projects were also fully audited by the HSE and no issues where identified.

I made the decision to establish the company initially within the North East of England, successfully tendering for and winning new build and refurbishment contracts in both the commercial and residential sectors of the construction industry from new clients, I subsequently relocated the company to a central location within the UK to enable me to carry out major projects across a large geographical area.
The company achieved an initial turnover of £2.60m within the first 18 months of trading. I was able to adapt the company in very uncertain and changing times to be able to competitively tender and complete projects across several different industries which included High rise residential and mixed use developments, Commercial New Build, Civil Engineering, Warehousing, Bar and Retail fit out, Classical building restoration.

Managing Director 2009 - 2011
The company saw rapid expansion in line with expectations and as such my duties continually changed and adapted to suit the companies needs.
Major achievements in this position include:
• Achieved Turn over of £2.60m within 18-month period.
• Achieved maximum development funding for Residential development, including Planning permission and separate funding from local government for Branding and marketing campaign.
• Completed a range of projects which included New build warehousing, minor Civil’s, Housing and Interior fit outs on time and to budget across a large geographical area, often identifying possible savings for customers.
• Achieved ‘Registered Builder’ status with National House Building Council.

My main responsibilities in this role included:

• Leading a team of professionals during the pre and post contract phases of contracts and individual projects.
• Directly manage team of Engineers on reactive maintenance contract, ensuring priorities are met, work records are correctly completed and returned, resolving complaints and ensuring budget capping is maintained.
• Compile programs of work and schedules for projects.
• Liaising with clients, engineers and sub contractors on contracts and work orders.
• Site inspections with client representatives.

Major Achievements in this position include:

• Placed in charge of underperforming contract. Through forward planning and re-organisation of work force, reduced the amount of outstanding and late work orders to within the parameters set out by KPI’s and targets.
• Project managed an upgrade to the IT system used by the company to monitor and control all costs associated with Reactive maintenance and Construction projects.

Senior Quantity Surveyor 2000 - 2006

My main responsibilities in this role included:

• Costing completed work orders and submitting payment requests of individual Reactive maintenance work orders using an agreed schedule of rates.
• Site measurements of completed works and submitting monthly valuations.
• Costing and submitting quotations for minor works for uplift requests.
• Compiling take off’s from plans using the standard method of measurement in accordance with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
• Costing materials and labor to complete the proposed works.
• Compiling work packages and quotation requests for specialist trades and sub-contractors.
• Compiling tender returns and submissions.
• Managing budgets and spends on projects during the construction phase.
• Ensuring a positive cash flow was achieved as part of a team.

Major Achievements in this position include:
• Lead a team, which achieved an increase of 50% in submissions of valuations. Ensuring a backlog of un-invoiced reactive work orders in the Facility Management division where dealt with and outstanding queries where resolved.
