The department I headed mainly worked on a timely coverage of news stories of money market goings-on worldwide, through translation, selection, editing and rephrasing. We laid special focus on economic reports, expert views and analyses of Arab bourses and companies.
Moreover, we coveedr and translated data on upcoming events of interest to investors, as well as full company profiles, including background, history and corporate actions taken by client companies. This content was then published on the company's comprehensive financial services portal.
Apart from translation tasks, which constituted our major duty, our team gained experience in browsing the internet and different media resources, hunting for top news of interest to stock market investors, to help them make sound decisions at the right time. We compiled, edited and rephrased such news, then published it on our portal for readers’ convenience, in a continually updated manner.
Part of my daily work routine was to ensuring top quality output and real-time coverage of the latest stories in the finance world.
My duties, furthermore, included managing the Dept.’s work flow, assigning tasks and coordinating between team-members. Such tasks included the translation of daily news articles on stock markets & trading sessions in the Arab world, besides global indices; the translation of company profiles, updates & calendar events; the translation and editing of reports of fundamental stock analyses and market performance and finally selecting news according to certain criteria from the net.
On the administrative level, I coached team-members to work in a fast-paced, pressuring work-cycle to achieve the required targets. Finally, I evaluated my subordinates’ daily performance, prepared monthly assessments, set their bonuses and proposed their promotions as well as represented them before the top management.
Sakhr Software Company, where I started working as a Senior Translator & Linguistic Researcher, is a well-established multi-national company providing friendly web- enabled translation solutions especially designed for both enterprise as well as individual users. It operates in other software research projects in other fields.
My contribution to the work-cycle comes via my thorough knowledge of English language & literature, my acquired experience as a translator (supported by academic study). I also employ my skills in web-browsing and using professional search engines, such as Google, for linguistic research purposes, lexical transfer of text & expressions of varied domains (political, medical, economic & legal).
Later, I was promoted as Head of Post-Editing Translation Services team. The core tasks of the team consist of translating carefully selected on-line articles & homepages of sites such as the Reuters, Yahoo News, Newsweek, and BBC…etc. from English to Arabic & vice versa. The output is uploaded on Sakhr’s translation service site on the spot, after I ensure the accuracy & quality of the target translation.
I also take part in language research by managing a database- building tool used for the extraction, translation & revision of web-based lexical terms, collocates, idioms & themes which contribute to building-up an enormous Machine Translation Engine.
Moreover, I’m fully in charge of revising the proposed work of a group of junior translators who make their contributions to that same tool. Then I ensure a whole cycle of teamwork of linguistic handling of those entries is complete so that those separately translated entries are fully implemented into the overall translation software. In addition to that I perform varied domain-specific translation tasks, comparing & editing translation passages & outlining syntactic problems & suggesting the possible measures for amendments & further enhancements.
