• Contribute to and support the shared strategic vision for the school.
• Build cohesiveness with the departmental teams.
• Ensure consistency in teaching and learning across and between grade levels.
• Participates in Heads of Department/Team Leader meetings.
• Oversees, and prepares the agenda for issues minutes from weekly departmental meetings.
• Ensures that there are clear lines of communication between administration and teachers.
• Ensures that teachers in the department communicate with parents in accordance with school policies.
• Assists principals during orientation of new teachers.
• Supports the IB and Curriculum Coordinators in the process of guiding teachers in implementing the curriculum.
• Monitors teachers to ensure they effectively oversee class and hallway displays.
• Ensures that requisition orders are within budget limitations and that ordering procedures are followed.
• Ensures that students’ work is marked according to school policy.
• Ensures that team members submit lesson planning according to deadlines and that planning meets the required standards.
• Assists Coordinators in the process of developing unit planners, ensuring that assessments are aligned with the standards.
• Ensures unit plans, learning engagements, and student evidence are uploaded to Toddle in a timely manner.
• Leads the process of monitoring the curriculum by regularly reviewing students’ work within the department.
• Submits annual departmental goals to the principals, both long and short term.
• Assists team members at the beginning of the school year and works with teams to produce essential agreements for meetings.
• Ensures that teachers supervise recess duties; ensuring recess protocols are followed by all staff.
• Leads workshops for staff and parents when required.
• Proofreads and checks exams, tests, review papers, and communication to parents.
• Monitor weekly planning, giving advice where necessary and informing the head of Stage if deadlines are not met and/or if planning is unsatisfactory.
• Reports to Principals, IB and Curriculum Coordinators.
