The Medical Services Department provides in-house primary and secondary healthcare services to the staf and registered staf dependents of the Central Bank of Nigeria. It also outsources services from approved retainer hospitals.
I worked in various capacities across Nigeria in this department. I rose from a medical oficer to a deputy director. I was Head Clinical Services in 2019, Head Zonal Coordination Division in 2021, Head Diagnostic and Treatment Center Kano in 2022 and Head Bauchi Zonal Medical in 2023.

Main responsibilities
• Provision of in-house healthcare services.

Main achievements
• Atended to an average of 50 outpatients per day for more than 10 years.
• Conducted over 90% of ultrasound scans and ECG tests in-house.
• Trained 100% of CBN radiographers and about 20% of CBN doctors on hands-on ultrasound scanning.
• Organized and trained more than 90% of CBN staf on hands-on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated electric defibrillators (AEDs).
• Ran antenatal clinic and developed an efective referral system for high-risk pregnancies, reducing maternal mortality rate to less than 1%.
• Achieved 95−100% coverage of corporate immunization and COVID-19 vaccination.
• Reduced referrals by more than 50% in Kano and Bauchi.
• Cut down overall medical cost by 20−30% in Kano and Bauchi.
• Played a leading role in the development of key departmental documents and instruments such as the Departmental Strategic Objectives, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), the Maiden Edition of CBN Clinical Protocol/Treatment Guidelines, the CBN Medical Services Policy, revised CBN Overseas Treatment Policy, and revised CBN Alcohol/Drug Free Workplace Policy.
• Got exceptional annual appraisal ratings for twelve (12) consecutive years.
Reason for leaving: Early exit due to change of leadership that came with an avalanche of disengagements, what I call political restructuring. It was not due to poor performance.

• Performed surgical procedures such as appendectomy, herniorrhaphy, hydrocoelectomy, and lump excision.

• Won the local government award for the best national corps member, 1988.
Reason for leaving: Completion of 1-year mandatory national service.
Responsibilities
• Rotated through the four major departments of Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Surgery. I was supervised by Prof. Chibueke Haggai Njoku, Prof Hamid Ahmad, Prof Bissallah Ahmed Ekele and late Prof A. O. Badejo, respectively.
Achievements
• Exposed to a wide range of cases and complicated cases from Nigeria and the neighboring Niger Republic.
• Managed cases of eclampsia, ruptured uterus, obstructed labor, VVF, RVF, complicated abortions with even perforated uterus and small bowel prolapse.
• Got excellent reports and recommendations from my supervisors.
• Stood out among my colleagues and the comment that beats my imagination was by Prof Ekele where he said that I was an ideal candidate for postgraduate training.
Reason for leaving: Completion of 1-year mandatory internship.
