I am responsible for the maintenance/modifications/projects/annual turnarounds activities for the power and desalination plant in the General Utilities Plant(7Gas Turbines, 3 WHRBs, 2 gas fired boilers, 2 steam turbines, 5 MSF units and, water treatment plant)

General Utilities Plant (GUP) is part of TAKREER (ADNOC) and supplies power and water to TAKREER Refinery as well as to other ADNOC companies and to the Ruwais Housing Colony.

1. Dubai Aluminum (DUBAL)- Dubai UAE

Dubai Aluminum (DUBAL) owns and operates one of the world's largest aluminum smelters. Built on a 480-hectare site in Jebel Ali, the complex's major facilities comprise a one million tone per annum primary aluminum smelter, a 2, 350 megawatt power station (at 30°C), a large carbon plant, casting operations with a capability of over 1.2 million tones per annum, a 30 million gallon per day seawater desalination plant, laboratories, port and storage facilities.



Responsibilities: Asset Management-Instrumentation and Control

Maintain the asset to deliver its designed performance and efficiency, thereby maximizing the asset availability in its optimum condition through:
1. Identify engineering risk and analyze high failure rates through conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and subsequently suggest solutions

2. Up-gradation and modernizing systems and equipment
• Address engineering risks and high failure rates:
o Find prudent solutions, evaluate options, conduct cost benefit analyses, make recommendations, and present the business case for decision maker’s review.
• Manage obsolescence and product life cycle of the systems and equipment
• Keep pace with technological changes.

3. Critically monitor and suggest best maintenance and operation practice in order optimize value from the asset and minimize the life cycle cost of ownership.

Liaison with vendors and solution providers, coordinating with stake holders on ongoing projects and issues, administration of performance monitoring system, conduct presentations for the decision makers and stakeholders to bring all on board on issues and its resolutions, monitor the performance of assets in the aftermath of modernization, or enhancement.

Fujairah F2 O&M Company-Fujairah UAE

Fujairah F2 O&M Company is a joint venture of International Power Plc, UK and the Marubeni Corporation, Japan. Fujairah F2 O&M Company has entered into an O&M agreement with Fujairah Asia Power Company (FAPCO) to operate and maintain the Fujairah F2 power and water complex. Fujairah F2 is a CCGT Water and Power project. When fully commissioned, the plant will produce 2000 MW power and 130 MGD desalinated water. The plant is located in the emirate of Fujairah in UAE.


Responsibilities: Instrumentation and Control

Project has been taken over from EPC/Construction Team and subsequently adopted the maintenance for Fujairah F2 power plant. Fujairah F2 is a 2000 MW CCGT Water and Power project in Fujairah, UAE. It comprises 5 X GT26 Gas turbines, 3 X Stem turbines, 5 X HRSG with supplementary firing, 12 X Multi Effect Desalination units (A total capacity of 100 MIGD).

Control System:

Egatrol (ABB ADVANT) for gas turbine controls and ALSPA P 320 (ALSTOM) for other parts of the plant. Siemens and ABB PLCs for the auxiliary plants.

I have set up the instrumentation and control section of the plant at F2 which includes setting up workshop, selecting and purchasing test equipment, recruitment of the staff, setting up all the preventive maintenance regime, adjusting business workflow for CAMM (MAXIMO) for Corrective Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance, writing all relevant procedures, selection and procurement of critical spares, HAZOP study, engineering risk assessment of key systems, producing maintenance budget, preparing punch list items, and making warranty claims. In addition, I am also responsible for the execution of PM and CM related to instrumentation and Control equipment of the CCGT power and MED water plant.

GDF SUEZ Networking Group

I am representing Fujairah F2 IWPP-CCPP in the GDF Suez International Power Instrumentation and Control Networking Group. This group comprises Instrumentation and Control representative from 23 power plants in the META region in which GDF SUEZ International Power is an stakeholder. I am also heading a task team for standardizing maintenance practices for this group.

It was my responsibility to investigate safety and business losses both, potential as well as realized. Subsequently recommending and implementing corrective measures. Also, responsibilities included taking actions and modifying systems and work method in order to avoid recurrence.
Providing direction and facilitating the execution of functions for a team of 24 engineers, supervisors, and technicians. Preparing job specs, selection criteria, preparing interview plans, and conducting interviews for personnel selection.
Contribution in cross departmental task teams for developing policies e.g. maintenance strategy, communication, reward strategy, recruitment strategy, staff consultative committee. I have also been a part of the implementation team for Maximo and developed the Business Workflow for the Engineering department.
