The Refinery Shift Superintendent performs the following functions and is responsible for:
• Ensuring that the planned production targets and quality specifications are met. Identify unit limitations and where possible eliminating or minimizing losses on production, energy, creation of unnecessary works and product giveaways.
• Reviewing the product quality in storage needed to meet the requirement of marketing.
• Coordinating with Trading/Supply regarding the arrivals of all import/export vessels.
• Coordinating with the Product Supply and Distribution about product lifting through the Oil Pipeline.
• Ensuring that maintenance work is carried-out as per schedule and works are performed in conformance with the established industry safety standards.
• Performing Daily Walkabout Inspection of the whole Complex.

9. Plans, schedules and organizes equipment preparation for maintenance.
10. Coordinate the activities of the Shutdown Core Team during Unit Turnaround and Inspection.
11. Conducts Walkabout Inspection of the Operating Area with the Area Manager and unit personnel.
Initiates, plans and leads field-based exercises to verify knowledge and understanding of unit emergency procedures.
12. Member of the Refinery Safety Committee and participate in the regular meetings to discuss safety related issues and identify, correct safety deficiencies.
13. Coordinates routine on-line and off-line testing of unit emergency instrumentation to ensure maximum availability.
14. Acts as Operations Field Commander during Refinery emergency, organizing fire teams, coordinating with the process units, Power Plant and OMS Area Teams and liaising with the Headquarters Command.

19. Do Performance Appraisals of Area Team members and discuss performance ratings with the Area Manager.
20. Recommends training and developmental assignment of unit personnel and Area Team members.
21. Supports and Promotes Optimum Team Performance and responsible for the overall performance of the Crude Unit Complex against the set performance targets.
22. Check that the Area Team operate and maintain equipment in accordance with industry standards, corporate policies, licensor’s guidelines, manufacturer’s recommendation, company practices and procedures.
23. Assumes the responsibility for the occupational health and safety of all personnel working in the Crude Complex Area.
24. Maintains multi directional communication with other Area Teams, Area Manager, Refinery Management Team and support departments.
25. Conducts mentoring and coaching sessions for employees with performance deficiencies.
26. Coordinates Area Team operating and safety reviews of all proposed changes to process plant, equipment, work practices and procedures. Convene team members for Hazop study as required.
27. Liaise with Area Teams and other departments to ensure plant documentations are kept up to date.

Team Leader - Shutdown & Debottlenecking Core Team at Caltex
