Manager, CPG-Analytical Lab
The Analytical Lab provides expert analytical testing and characterization services to the CPG-CIPR research community using a wide range of advanced analytical instruments. The lab uses advanced technique for custom and routine chemical analysis of petroleum (crude oil and other hydrocarbon products), gas, oil field chemicals (polymers, surfactants), rock/clay samples, and petroleum fluids (brine and produced water). My role is to coordinate all the activities of this lab.
Project: Development of Date Pit Nanoparticle for Water Based Drilling Fluid Formulation
Client : CPG
The objective of this work is to investigate the rheology, filtration and thermal stability of water based drilling fluids consisting of Bentonite and modified date pit nanoparticles.
This is an on-going project and I am the principal investigator. My roles basically include:
 Co-ordination of the activities of the whole project
 Updating the literature on the drilling fluid additives using natural polymers
 Procurement, operation and installation of equipment
 Procurement of the chemicals and other materials
 Nanoparticle synthesis and characterization
 Attending weekly/monthly progress meetings with client and report/manuscript writing
Project: Fabrication of HighPerformance Polymeric/Hybrid Membranes for the Separation of CO2 from Natural Gas
Client : KACST
The research focuses on the synthesis of new class of polymers/copolymers and their hybrids for application in CO2 separation from natural gas. I am involved in membrane fabrication and gas permeation tests.
Project: Development of Stable bentonite for Drilling Fluid Formulations Using Local Sources
Client : CPG
The main objective of this project is to develop a new drilling fluid formulation using local bentonite.
My responsibilities in this project are to:
 Identify the chemical, physical and mineralogical properties of the local bentonite as well as the upgraded bentonite using XRD, EDS and ICP
 Synthesis of organobentonite (polymer - bentonite hybrid) systems for water-based drilling fluids
 Supervise filtration and rheological analysis of the raw and upgraded bentonite samples using API standard procedures
Project: Evaluation of Potential Chemical EOR Methods for Wafra- Ratawi Reservoir (14- OIL611-04 -)
Client: NSTIP
The purpose of this project is to test the viability of Chemical (polymer and surfactant flooding) Enhanced Oil Recovery in Wafra reservoir Field.
My role in this project is to carry out variety of analytical tests on polymer, surfacatnat and crude oil. Some of the tests include:
 SARA Analysis of crude oil using HPLC
 Analysis of brine sample before and after core flooding using ICP-OES
 Thermal property analysis of polymers and surfactants using TGA
Project: Sedimentological and Digital Outcrop Modeling of the Upper Dhruma Formation in Central Saudi Arabia: An Analog for Lower Fadhili Reservoir (13-OIL1694-04)
Client : NSTIP
 In this project, I was involved in the mineralogical studies of the clay samples using ICP-OES

Research Assistant at Chemical Engineering Department, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran 31261
  • Saudi Arabia - Al Husayniyah
  • September 2009 to September 2011

Job responsibilities include:
 Chemical Engineering Research (Polymer Processing and Characterization)
 Teaching of Chemical Engineering courses (refer to the Section on teaching experience)
 Coordination/Supervision of Chemical Engineering Laboratories
Project: Polyethylene/Nanoclay Composites for Aramco natural gas handling steel pipe lining: Phase I: Formulations and Permeability Measurement (08PET-84-4)
Client: Saudi Aramco
The overall objective of this work is the selection of a proper clay additive to be used for polyethylene liners used in gas pipelines
My role in this project include:
 Barrier membrane sample preparation and characterization using gas permeability (CO2/CH4), morphological analysis using SEM and XRD, thermal properties analysis using TGA, nano indentation, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), Mechanical Testing, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
 Development of a mathematical model for gas transport in nanocomposite
 Progress report/manuscript writing
