Job description - Commissioning Engineer (previously Lead Site Engineer in SHI Shipyard, Korea)


Commissioning- Commissioning of BOP controls system- including all Electrical and instrument devices and software on Stack/LMRP, HPU, Mixing System, Panels and Diverter, Gutor UPS and all field devices. Also cause and effects testing, comms checks and associated SAT testing. In addition on-site modifications of software/hardware on site to suit client specifications, rectification of incorrect logic and red-lines of hardware corrections.

Office based (Houston)- Main workscopes- FAT's with client, pre-commissioning system without stack, and also with stack hook up. Configuration set up of hardware, fault finding and rectification of electrical and S/W issues. PLC and HMI Software upgrades for various projects prior to site mobilisation.


Field Service - Offshore rectification of Electrical and Software issues within BOP, EDS and ballast control systems- including rectification of Data Logging Issues, identification and rectification of I/O faults and upgrades.

Responsible for Electrical and Instrument equipment aboard barge during subsea pressure tests of pipeline. Repair of equipment monitoring of soft starter feeds to submersible pumps.

Commissioning- ESD systems hook up and configuration. Software/hardware modifications as required, as well as Ballast control systems commissioning. Also Commissioning of BOP controls systems. Various Offshore/site Projects worked on

Commissioning of Electrical and Instrument equipment aboard rig for main SCADA- Ensuring the equipment installed complied with standards. Checking of various actuators and associated equipment via fault inhibiting, status checking via SCADA mimic-panels . Inputs/outputs changed to rectify faults found.

Various Elec/Inst maintenance, testing and installation jobs including- well-head gas annulus DA upgrades, Mud Pit Data acquisition upgrades, Chemical injection skid installation, ESD Upgrades, UPS Upgrades, F and Gas upgrades, . Testing, commissioning and repair of various actuators, motors, sensor and associated equipment, also involved in De-commissioning of NW Hutton platform.

Various offshore North Sea projects worked on including- Tansocean Arctic III, Shell Gannet, Shearwater, Nelson, BP Vagant, Chevron Alba North, CNR Muchison, Balmoral, Talisman Claymore

Carrying out of all platform preventative maintenance routines . Fault-finding, repair/replacement of various electrical equipment including HVAC systems, F+G, AC motors, switchgear, UPS systems, lighting systems etc. Also Power generation.
Also 18 months of College and workshop based courses covering all aspects of electrical work as well as other petro-chem based courses- including instrument, electronic and hydrocarbon theory courses.
