District Health Sister ( DHS)
Purpose: To help and implement needs oriented district health care services throughout the district
Responsibilities: Maternal and child health Activities
• Ensuring the regular and efficient running of the following: • Under fives Clinics
• Ante natal Clinics and Reproductive Clinics
• Postnatal Care and Family Planning Posts at the hospital, Community Health Center ( CHC), Community Health Posts ( CHP) and Maternal and Child Health Post (MCHP)
Planning and administration: • Coordinate District Health Management Team (DHMT), Peripheral health Units (PHU) and Intersectional meetings at district and Chiefdom level
• Preparing of annual district work plan for all health activities
• Develop and review regular supervisory protocols
• Ensure Staff discipline at all level
• Advice on appropriate Staff movement within the district
• Participate and cooperate in the preparation of the quarterly and annually district reports
• Follow up the establishment of Maternal Child Health Post (MCHP) when approved
• Developing of Proposal/ Concept Note to implement health activities within the district
• Writing of reports after implementation of each activity
• Postings of health Staff at all level
Supervision: • Preparing of monthly supervisory work plan,
• Make regular supervisory tours throughout the district using the supervisory protocol for visit
• Ensure accurate record keeping at PHUs
• Make recommends and follow up appropriate actions emanating from supervision
• Ensure all MCH related activities are performed effectively

I n July1996 to 1997 I was an RN working in both general Medical and Surgical wards in the main referral Hospital ( Connuanght) in Sierra Leone as Nurse In - Charge, giving general Nursing care to patients
In January 1997 to January 1998 I worked at the general paediatrics ward in the same hospital
I was transferred at Rokupa Satelite Clinics in 1998 and later posted to Macualy Satelite Clinic after the War in January 1999 for the treatment of war victims and minor Aliments. In 2000 there was a cholera out break and the Clinic becomes a cholera unit were we treat cholera cases only.
In 2001 I was posted in the main referral Maternity hospital for six years for the treatment and care of women during pregnancy, labour delivery and postnatal and also to care for the new born baby
