I was the Lead clinician for Acute Medicine at Frimley Park Hospital which is a part of Frimley Health Foundation Trust and is one of the top ranking hospitals in the UK. It is a 750 bed hospital which is a centre for 24 hours primary percutaneous angioplasties for heart attacks, Stroke Thrombolysis, vascular emergencies and trauma.
I was involved in the planning of the acute medical unit, and successfully helped in the expansion of the unit as well as attract new consultants who bolstered the team. The department became much stronger and sports an enthusiastic workforce. During that period many pathways and protocols were developed and an ambulatory unit was designed, built and is now well established.
My work involved managing workforce including junior doctors & consultants in the acute medical unit, taking part in acute unselected medical oncall, working closely with accident & emergency department. and I continued to do chest pain clinics, ambulatory clinic and general medicine and cardiology clinic. I also supervised and report Thallium scans.
I was a member of various committees including including Transformational group, Ambulatory group, Local Faculty Group, Mortality & morbidity meeting and Drug & Therapeutic Committee.
Many pathways had been developed to facilitate ambulatory work.
I also had the responsibility of teaching and training of junior doctors on our unit. I was an educational and clinical supervisor of Foundation Year 2, Core Medical Trainees and GP VTS level doctors. I also took part in PACES training of junior doctors. Audits were done regularly.
Multidisciplinary team meeting, discharge planning and follow up was an essential part of the work.
