I studied units in second language aquisition, grammar and discourse, technology and language learning, English phonetics and phonology, second language writing, and language program evaluation. In my final year, I wrote a minor thesis in language program evaluation, with a focus on evaluating language programs which employ blended learning. The title: Evaluating Blended Language Programmes. I achieved first class honours results for all units studied, and was on the Faculty of Arts Dean's Honours List for outstanding academic achievement in the Master of Applied Linguistics, 2014. After graduating, I went on to work collaboratively with my thesis supervisor, Dr Paul Gruba, on the book 'Blended Language Program Evaluation', published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2016.

Within the Bachelor of Modern Languages, I majored in Applied Linguistics, and did a double major in Japanese. I won a peace and friendship scholarship in 1995 due to my strong academic results. On that scholarship, I studied Japanese language intensively for one year at the University of the Ryukyus, Japan.
