Database Design and Implementation: In my advanced Database course project, I created the entire data model for a Library application. The implementation is done on Oracle. The project includes writing database specifications, ER modelling, ER-to-relational mapping, Normalization (BCNF), database implementation and testing. The project gave me chance to create and test on entity types with subtypes, weak entity types, multi-valued attributes, relationship cardinalities (1:1, 1:N, M:N), Integrity Constraints and vast variety of queries (self-join, outer-join, Correlated, Non-correlated, Nested, RANK, TOP-N, queries that perform UNION, INTERSECT, MINUS, SUM, AVG, MAX, MIN, GROUP BY, HAVING, ORDER BY). Information Visualization: In this project I build a responsive web page that shows the number of accidents occurred in a year in Michigan, USA. I took leverage to add more attributes in to action and used different technologies to visualize data. I used Google Maps API to visualize the accidents up to the county level. It further allows you to zoom in to the street level. I also used Google Charts, Javascript, jsfiddle to visualize the accidents in accordance to age, gender and Intoxication. For ease, I used Bootstrap, HTML to build a web page. Graduation Project: I used Bootstrap and HTML to build the web pages, JSP to make the web pages generated dynamically, Javascript to add client-side behavior to the HTML pages. In order to make event-handling and API callouts much simpler I used JQuery, a Javascript library by which we can achieve versatility and extensibility. This web based application is developed using Java and JSP/Servlet web technologies and is based on the server – client model. Eclipse was used to develop the application as it is one of the most widely used IDE for web development. MYSQL was chosen as the RDMS for data persistence and Apache Tomcat as the web container to host the web application. JDBC API was used as a bridge between the database and the web application. On the front-end side CSS and javascript were used to create an appealing user interface for the web application.
